To check and set the valve timing according to the marks on the car, you will need: a 17 mm open-end wrench, a 10 mm socket wrench, a special key for turning the tension roller or a snap ring puller, and a screwdriver.

1. Remove the front camshaft drive belt cover (see "Setting the piston of the first cylinder to the TDC position of the compression stroke").

2. Turn the crankshaft by the bolt securing the alternator drive pulley to it (see point 5 "Setting the piston of the first cylinder to the TDC position of the compression stroke") until the mark on the flywheel (risk) coincides with the cutout on the scale of the rear shield of the clutch housing.

3. Check that the mark on the camshaft pulley matches the tab on the rear cover of the camshaft drive belt (see "Setting the piston of the first cylinder to the TDC position of the compression stroke").

3. Check that the mark on the camshaft pulley matches the tab on the rear cover of the camshaft…

4. If the valve timing marks do not match, loosen the tension roller mounting nut and turn it to loosen the timing belt tension.

5. Remove the timing belt from the camshaft pulley...

6. ...and turn the camshaft by the bolt securing its pulley until the marks on the pulley and rear cover are aligned.

7. Place the timing belt on the camshaft pulley, ensuring that its drive section is tensioned.

8. After turning the crankshaft two revolutions, check the position of the valve timing marks, as you did before.

9. Adjust the tension of the camshaft drive belt (see "Timing Belt Tension Adjustment (camshaft drive)").

10. Install all removed parts and assemblies on the vehicle in the reverse order of removal.
