...and remove the oil level indicator (dipstick).
Wipe the pointer with a clean cloth and insert it into the guide tube until it stops.
We take out the indicator again and determine the oil level in the engine oil pan using the edge of the oil film on it.
The edge of the oil film should be between the MIN and MAX marks on the oil level indicator.
If necessary, add oil to the engine crankcase.
We wait at least three minutes so that the added portion of oil has time to drain into the pan, and check again

level. We install the level indicator in place.
When adding oil, do not exceed the maximum permissible level. Otherwise, oil will enter the combustion chambers of the cylinders through the crankcase ventilation system, and the combustion products of the oil may damage the catalytic converter of the exhaust gases.
Lada X-Ray. Changing engine oil and oil filter
We change the engine oil in accordance with the maintenance regulations every 15 thousand km. In difficult operating conditions - after 7.5 thousand km. We replace it on a non-running engine, preferably immediately after the trip, while the oil has not cooled down.

We unscrew the oil filler cap.
From underneath the car, we clean the oil pan from dirt around the drain plug.

Using a 17 mm socket with an extension, loosen the drain plug.
Place a wide container for used oil with a capacity of at least 4 liters under the hole.

and, having unscrewed the plug manually, we drain the oil.
Be careful, the oil is hot.
Drain the oil for at least 10 minutes. Wipe the plug, screw it in and tighten it. We remove oil leaks from the engine oil pan. Place a container under the oil filter. We turn away (counterclockwise) oil filter. If this cannot be done manually...

.we loosen the filter tightening with a puller (for clarity, we show the operation with the filter removed).
If there is no puller, pierce the filter housing with a screwdriver (closer to the bottom, so as not to damage the engine nipple) and unscrew the filter using a screwdriver as a lever.

We remove the oil filter.
We clean the filter seat on the cylinder block from dirt and oil leaks.

We tighten the oil filter by hand until the sealing ring touches the seating surface of the oil filter bracket.
Then we turn the filter another 3/4 turn to seal the connection.

Pour 3.75 liters of oil into the engine through the oil filler neck.
We turn the neck cap clockwise.
We start the engine for 1-2 minutes. We make sure that the control lamp in the instrument cluster goes out (emergency) there is no oil pressure in the engine and no leaks from under the plug and filter. If necessary, tighten the oil filter and drain plug.
We stop the engine after a few minutes (so that the oil flows into the oil pan) check the oil level (see "Checking the oil level in the engine oil pan") and bring it up to standard.
