First generation (2011-present)
The first generation was presented on May 11, 2011 in Tolyatti at the Congress of the Union of Machine Builders of Russia. Assembly began on May 16, 2011 in the conveyor debugging mode, serial production started in October, and sales began on December 1, 2011. From the very beginning, a four-door sedan was available, 4246 mm long, 1700 mm wide, 1500 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2476 mm and a curb weight of 1085 kg. In 2014, a five-door liftback body with the same external dimensions appeared. After 2018, a five-door hatchback was added (length 3926 mm, width 1700 mm, height 1500 mm) and station wagon (length 4148 mm, width 1700 mm, height 1560 mm). The car is available in three trim levels: Standard, Norma, and Lux. The cheapest model cost 229,000 rubles, in 2012 the price was raised to 259,000 rubles, in 2013 to 279,000 rubles, and in 2017 the price of the minimum trim level was 389,000 rubles. Such a significant increase in price occurred due to the currency crisis of 2014, which led to a strong weakening of the ruble.
The car was equipped with four models of petrol four-cylinder engines with a volume of 1.6 liters (1597 cm³) with the following characteristics: VAZ-11183-50 (8-valve, injection, 82 hp), VAZ-11186 (8-valve, injection, 87 hp), VAZ-21126 (16-valve, distributed injection, 98 hp) and VAZ-21127 (16-valve, distributed injection, 106 hp). The gearbox is a five-speed manual, a five-speed robotic, and since 2012 a four-speed automatic has been installed, developed on the basis of a Japanese gearbox "Jatco JF414E". This is the first AvtoVAZ vehicle on which an automatic transmission is installed as standard on the conveyor belt.
In May 2013, AvtoVAZ recalled about 30 thousand sold Granta and "Kalina" due to problems found in the airbag control system.
In August 2018, the updated Granta FL (FaceLift) was presented at the Moscow International Motor Show, and official sales started in September. In addition to the already produced sedan and liftback, a station wagon and hatchback were added, which replaced "Lada Kalina", which ceased to be produced in 2018. The front of the car began to look in the signature X-shaped style, the rear bumpers, painted in the body color, the dashboard were also changed, the engines and gearbox were improved.
The newspaper "Autoreview" conducted two crash tests of the car using its own "ARCAP" methodology. In the basic "Standard" configuration, it was assigned a rating of 8.4 points out of 16, and in the maximum "Lux" configuration with two front airbags and seat belt pretensioners, it was assigned a rating of 10.7 points out of 16.
