Set TDC according to the mark on the camshaft pulley (when installed according to the marks on the flywheel or crankshaft pulley, the piston of either the 1st or 4th cylinder can be in this position). After that, be sure to check that the marks on the flywheel or crankshaft pulley match (if the alternator drive pulley is removed). If the marks on the flywheel or crankshaft pulley do not match, then the valve timing is incorrect (1st cylinder piston not set to TDC). In this case, it is necessary to remove the camshaft drive belt and turn the crankshaft until the marks are aligned.
TDC marks are applied to the camshaft pulley (ledge) and rear camshaft drive belt cover (tendril).
In addition, the TDC marks are applied to the flywheel (risk) and the scale of the rear shield of the clutch housing (triangular cut). For clarity, the gearbox has been removed from the car.
Additionally, TDC marks are applied to the crankshaft toothed pulley (dot) and oil pump cover (triangular cut). These marks are only visible when the alternator drive pulley is removed.
To set the piston of the first cylinder to the TDC position (top dead center) compression stroke on the car you will need: ring wrench «at 17», socket wrench «on 10».
1. Disconnect the wire from the terminal «minus» battery.
2. Set the gearshift lever to neutral position, place wheel chocks under the vehicle wheels («shoes»).
3. Open the hood and remove the three screws securing the front timing belt cover (camshaft drive). Please note: the wire holders are also fixed with the screws of the side fastening of the camshaft belt cover.
4. Remove the front timing belt cover.
5. Turn the crankshaft by the bolt securing the alternator drive pulley to it until the marks on the camshaft pulley and the rear cover of the drive belt match.
6. Remove the plug from the hole in the clutch housing and check the alignment of the marks on the flywheel.
