  • Setting the piston of the first cylinder to the TDC position
0
Piston of the 1st cylinder in the TDC position (top dead center) the compression stroke is set so that when carrying out work related to removing the camshaft drive belt, the valve timing is not disturbed. If the valve timing is incorrect, the engine will not operate normally.

Set the TDC of the compression stroke using the marks on the camshaft pulleys (when installed according to the marks on the flywheel or crankshaft pulley, the piston of either the 1st or 4th cylinder may be in this position). After this, be sure to check that the marks on the flywheel or on the toothed pulley of the crankshaft match (if the generator drive pulley is removed). If the mark on the flywheel or crankshaft pulley does not match, then the valve timing is out of alignment (piston of the 1st cylinder is not set to TDC). In this case, it is necessary to remove the camshaft drive belt and turn the crankshaft until the marks are aligned.

Note: Since it is inconvenient to turn the crankshaft by the bolt that attaches the pulley to it, you can do this in the following ways:

Note: 1) Engage any gear (preferably 4th) and slowly roll the car until the marks on the camshaft pulleys match the mark on the rear cover of the camshaft drive belt;

Note: 2) Engage any gear and lift one of the front wheels off the ground. Then turn the suspended wheel until the mark on the camshaft pulley coincides with the mark on the rear cover of the camshaft drive belt.

Additionally, all engines have marks on the crankshaft toothed pulley (dot) and the oil pump cover (v-neck). These marks are only visible when the alternator drive pulley is removed.
