Set the TDC of the compression stroke according to the marks on the camshaft pulleys (when installed according to the marks on the flywheel or crankshaft pulley, the piston of either the 1st or 4th cylinder can be in this position). After that, be sure to check that the marks on the flywheel or on the crankshaft toothed pulley match (if the alternator drive pulley is removed). If at the same time the mark on the flywheel or crankshaft pulley does not match, it means that the installation of the valve timing is violated (1st cylinder piston not set to TDC). In this case, it is necessary to remove the camshaft drive belt and turn the crankshaft until the marks are aligned.
Note. Since it is inconvenient to turn the crankshaft by the pulley fastening bolt to it, you can do this in the following ways:
Note. 1) turn on any gear (better than 4) and slowly drive the car until the marks on the camshaft pulleys match the mark on the rear cover of the camshaft drive belt;
Note. 2) Shift into any gear and jack up one of the front wheels. Then turn the suspended wheel until the mark on the camshaft pulley matches the mark on the rear cover of the camshaft drive belt.
On the engine mod. 21126 marks on the camshaft pulleys (protrusions A) and rear camshaft drive belt cover (slot B).
In addition, marks are applied to the flywheel (risk) and the scale of the rear shield of the clutch housing (triangular cut). For clarity, the gearbox has been removed.
Additionally, for all engines, marks are applied to the crankshaft toothed pulley (dot) and oil pump cover (triangular cut). These marks are only visible when the alternator drive pulley is removed.
You will need: ring wrench «at 17», hex key «by 5», TORX T30 wrench, Phillips screwdriver.
1. Disconnect the wire from the terminal «minus» battery.
2. Using a Phillips screwdriver, remove one screw securing the right mudguard to the fender liner...
3.... with a TORX T30 key, two screws securing it to the body..
4.... and remove the shield.
5. Open the hood and hex wrench «by 5» remove the five bolts securing the upper front cover of the timing belt..
6.... and remove the cover.
7. Ring wrench «at 17» turn the crankshaft by the bolt securing the alternator drive pulley to it until the marks on the camshaft pulleys and the rear cover match.
8. Remove the plug from the hole in the clutch housing and check the alignment of the marks on the flywheel (thermostat removed for clarity).
