1. Remove the alternator belt (see "Checking the alternator drive belt tension and replacing it").
2. Disconnect the wire from the negative terminal of the battery.
3. Remove the right front wheel and place the vehicle on a secure support.
4. Remove the front timing belt cover and set the piston of the 1st cylinder to the TDC position (see "Setting the piston of the first cylinder to the TDC position of the compression stroke").

5. Loosen the tension roller mounting nut and turn the tension roller to relieve the timing belt tension.

6. Remove the timing belt from the camshaft pulley, tension roller and water pump toothed pulley.

7. In order to unscrew the generator drive pulley mounting bolt, it is necessary to secure the crankshaft from turning. To do this, after removing the plug in the clutch housing, the assistant must use a mounting blade or a large screwdriver to hold the crankshaft from turning by the teeth of the flywheel ring gear.

8. Having unscrewed the crankshaft pulley mounting bolt...

9. ... remove it with the washer and remove the generator drive pulley from the crankshaft.
10. Remove the timing belt from the crankshaft toothed pulley.
11. Before installing a new timing belt, clean the pulleys and tension roller from dirt and grease, degrease them with white spirit.

12. Install the timing belt on the vehicle in the reverse order of removal. The generator drive pulley can be installed in one position. Hole 1 of the generator pulley must fit onto mounting sleeve 2.
13. When installing the timing belt, ensure that its leading branch is tensioned. After installing the timing belt, adjust the tension (see "Timing Belt Tension Adjustment (camshaft drive)").
If you hear noise from the timing belt, there is a chance that the tensioner roller bearing has failed. Remove the tension roller and check the functionality of its bearing. If you feel binding or axial play when turning the bearing, or notice grease leaking from the bearing, replace the tension roller.

14. To replace the tension roller, before installing the timing belt, completely unscrew its mounting nut, remove the washer...

15. ...and then the tension roller from the axle.
16. Install the new tension roller on the vehicle in the reverse order of removal. In this case, the holes for the special key must be directed outward. After installing the roller, adjust the belt tension (see "Timing Belt Tension Adjustment (camshaft drive)").
