Replacing the camshaft seal (Kalina 1118)

If you detect an oil leak through the camshaft oil seal, first check whether the crankcase ventilation system is clogged or whether the hoses of this system are pinched; if necessary, eliminate the faults. If the oil leak does not stop, replace the camshaft oil seal.

To replace the camshaft oil seal on your vehicle, you will need a flat-blade screwdriver.

1. Disconnect the wire from the negative terminal of the battery.

2. Set the piston of the 1st cylinder to the TDC position (see "Setting the piston of the first cylinder to the TDC position of the compression stroke").

3. Remove the camshaft pulley (see "Replacing the cylinder head gasket").

4. Remove the key from the camshaft.



5. Using a screwdriver, remove the camshaft oil seal.



6. Before installing a new camshaft oil seal, inspect the working edge of the oil seal 1. It should be smooth, without tears, dents or rubber build-up. The oil seal spring must be intact and unstretched. Lubricate the working edge of the camshaft oil seal with engine oil.





7. Install the camshaft oil seal with the working edge inside the cylinder head, carefully push the working edge of the oil seal onto the camshaft using a wooden stick and press it in until it stops using a suitable mandrel.

8. Install all parts on the vehicle in the reverse order of removal. Install the camshaft pulley with the protruding part of the hub towards the engine. Adjust the camshaft drive belt tension (see "Timing Belt Tension Adjustment (camshaft drive)").
