Regularly check the condition and tension of the timing belt, adjust the tension if necessary. When the belt tension is loosened, its teeth wear out quickly and, in addition, the belt may jump on the toothed pulleys of the crankshaft and camshafts, which leads to a violation of the valve timing, loss of power, and engine damage.
You will need a hex wrench «for 6».
1. Remove the five bolts securing the top cover of the timing belt..
2.... and remove the cover.
3. Check the tension of the timing belt by pressing your finger with a force of 100 N (10 kgf) to the middle of the branch of the toothed belt between the camshaft pulleys and measure the deflection of the toothed belt - the belt should bend no more than 5-7 mm.
4. The check is also carried out according to the position of the mark 1 on the outer cage of the tension roller, which should be opposite the ledge 2.
5. If the condition of the timing belt or its tension is unsatisfactory, then replace the belt accordingly or adjust its tension (see «Replacing the timing belt and tensioner pulley»).
6. Establish all details in sequence, return to removal.
