The timing belt should be checked during vehicle maintenance - every 15,000 km.

Recommendation. If, when the engine is running, a loud noise from a rotating bearing is heard in the area of the upper front timing belt cover (see "Checking the technical condition of the engine") When checking the belt, you should also check the condition of the tension and guide rollers (see "Timing Belt Tensioner and Guide Rollers - Checking and Replacing") and the coolant pump (see "Coolant Pump - Replacement").

Sequence of execution

1. Prepare the car for work (see "Preparing the car for maintenance and repair").

2. Remove the decorative engine cover (see "Engine trim panel - removal and installation").

3. Disconnect the wire ends from the windshield washer electric pumps, remove the windshield washer reservoir and, without disconnecting the tubes from it, move it to the side (see "Windscreen washer reservoir - removal and installation").

4. Using a 5 mm Allen key, unscrew the five bolts securing the front upper timing belt cover.

4. Using a 5 mm Allen key, unscrew the five bolts securing the front upper timing belt cover.

5. Remove the cover from the engine.

6. Rotate the crankshaft and visually check the condition of the belt.

6. Rotate the crankshaft and visually check the condition of the belt.

Recommendation. The crankshaft can be rotated using a 17 mm open-end wrench on the bolt securing its pulley (see "Timing Belt - Replacement").

The belt must be clean - no dirt or oil on its surface. A belt with tears, cracks, delamination, cut or worn teeth, or abrasions down to the cord must be replaced (see "Timing Belt - Replacement").

7. After inspection, install the cover and parts removed from the car back in place.
