Table 16.1. Modifications of the LADA KALINA car
*Some cars were equipped with the 11183 engine.
LADA KALINA family cars are produced with three body types: sedan, hatchback and station wagon, and are equipped with three engine models (see table 16.1). Engine 11194, which began to be equipped with the car in mid-2007, is discussed in detail in the sections of Chapter 8 (see "Engine and its systems"). Since the beginning of production, the car was equipped with only eight-valve engines with a working volume of 1.6 liters, mainly model 21114, used in LADA cars of the "tenth" family. Some cars were equipped with the 11183 engine, which is used in cars of the SAMARA family. Both engines are similar in technical characteristics, but have minor design differences. Externally, these engines differ in the color of the cylinder block: the block of engine 21114 is blue, and that of engine 11183 is gray. The engines are assembled on different production lines. Engine 11183 has a 21083 series connecting rod and piston group with a pressed-in pin, while engine 21114 has a 2110 series connecting rod and piston group with a floating pin. The 21114 engine is equipped with a 200 mm diameter clutch disc, while the 11183 engine is equipped with a 190 mm diameter clutch disc, but with imported linings. In other details, the engines are unified. The design features and repair of these engines are described below in the relevant sections.
The cylinder head of the eight-valve engine is more compact (compared to the sixteen-valve), therefore all engine attachments are accessible from above. The alternator drive belt can be adjusted without removing the windshield washer reservoir.
Engine compartment of a car with an 8-valve 1.6i engine:
1 - generator drive belt tensioner;
2 - spark plugs with high-voltage wire tips placed on them;
3 - ignition coil;
4 - knock sensor;
5 - generator.
The voltage regulator can be replaced and the generator removed from above. The knock sensor and other engine management system components are easily accessible. The camshaft position sensor is installed in the cylinder head plug. It responds to a pin pressed into the camshaft (see "Camshaft of the l.6i engine - removal and installation").

The ignition system of eight-valve engines uses one ignition coil. It consists of two dual-terminal ignition coils, made in a single housing. Spark formation occurs in two cylinders simultaneously (1-4 or 2-3). The ignition coil is connected to the spark plugs by four high-voltage wires with non-removable tips.
Elements of the ignition system of the 8-valve 1.6i engine:
1 - ignition coil;
2 - set of high-voltage wires.
The engines use A17DVRM spark plugs, where:
- A - thread M14x1.25;
- 17 - heat rating;
- D - threaded part length 19 mm, with a flat seating surface;
- B - the protrusion of the thermal cone of the insulator beyond the end of the threaded part of the housing;
- R - built-in resistor;
- M - bimetallic central electrode.
The engine can be equipped with similar spark plugs from other manufacturers:
- WR7DCX (BOSCH);
- LR15YC (BRISK "SUPER").
Spark plug for 8-valve 1.6i engine:
1 - side electrode;
2 - central electrode (in the thermal cone of the insulator);
3 - threaded part of the body;
4 - sealing ring;
5 - hexagonal part of the body for the key;
6 - insulator (it has spark plug markings on it);
7 - contact tip (removable, threaded).
Features of ignition system repair are shown below (see relevant sections).
Eight-valve engines use the 1118 series fuel rail, which differs from the 11194 engine rail in shape and injector mounting design. The fuel rail can be removed from the engine without dismantling the intake manifold and receiver (see "Fuel rail of the 1.6i engine - removal, disassembly, assembly and installation").
Fuel rail of 8-valve 1.6i engine:
1 - diagnostic nipple;
2 - fuel rail;
3 - nipple for connection to the fuel line;
4, 5, 6 and 7 - injectors.
The fuel rail is equipped with injectors 1118-1132010 (SIEMENS VAZ 20734).
Injector for 8-valve 1.6i engine:
1 - sprayer;
2 - sealing rubber ring;
3 - terminals for connecting the wiring harness block.
Since 2009, some hatchback cars have been equipped with the 21126 engine, which was previously only installed in LADA PRIORA family cars. This engine differs from the 11194 engine in its larger working volume and, accordingly, has a different cylinder block and pistons with a diameter of 82 mm. The factory designation of the model is VAZ-1196.
Cars of the LADA KALINA family (models VAZ-1117, -1118 and -1119) differ in the design of the rear part of the body. Other body parts are identical for all models. The shape of the estate car's luggage compartment door differs from that of the hatchback. The rear lights are not located on the rear pillars, but are built into the rear fenders above the bumper. Similar to how it is done on a sedan car. The rear lights of the sedan and station wagon are similar in shape, but are not interchangeable.
Rear light of a sedan car:
1 - rear turn signal section;
2 - brake light section;
3 - section of the reversing light;
4 - section of side and fog lights.
To replace the bulbs in the rear light (as on the hatchback, see. "Tail light - replacing bulbs") it is necessary to remove the lantern. The rear light is secured with three nuts for an 8 mm spanner. There are openings in the luggage compartment trim to access them and the wiring harness block.

The sedan's trunk lid is held open by two gas struts. To replace the stop, use a slotted screwdriver to pry its ends off the ball pins of the cover hinge.

The luggage compartment lid is secured to each hinge with three 10mm nuts.

The lock is secured to the lid with three nuts for a 10 mm wrench.

To access the switch (cylinder) of the lock, a hole is made in the upholstery of the luggage compartment lid, covered with a plastic cover. The lid is held in place by four holders.
There is also a tuning package for the hatchback car, called LADA KALINA Sport. The car is equipped with a factory set of upgraded parts that change the appearance of the car: bumpers with a new design and body-colored mirrors with electric drive and electric heating.

A spoiler is installed on top of the rear luggage compartment door.

The car with the 21126 engine is equipped with a sports suspension with original shock absorber struts and springs, upgraded brakes with ABS. The rear brakes are disc. The car is equipped with 15-inch alloy wheels with low-profile tires measuring 195/50 R15.

The pedals are equipped with sports pads.

The car can be equipped with seats with advanced lateral support, a specially equipped (reinforced) five-speed manual transmission.
The standard instrument cluster has been replaced by a modernized one with white instrument scales. The oil filler caps and tanks can be equipped with harnesses to prevent them from falling and being lost (see photo).
The modification of the car with a more powerful engine model 21126 was called LADA KALINA Sport 1.6, and the version with a standard engine model 11194 was called LADA KALINA Sport 1.4.
