The oil pump is removed from the vehicle for repairs when its supply decreases, causing constant low oil pressure in the engine lubrication system, and when oil leaks through the sealing gasket.

To remove and install the oil pump on a car, you will need: all the tools necessary to remove the timing belt and the engine oil pan, as well as a 10 mm wrench.

1. Disconnect the wire from the negative terminal of the battery.

11. Unscrew the six bolts securing the oil pump to the cylinder block, move the oil pump with a screwdriver, inserting it between the pump and the main bearing cap, and remove the oil pump with the gasket. Note that there are flat washers installed under the bolts.

12. Clean the mating surfaces of the cylinder block and oil pump housing from any remaining old gasket.

16. Lubricate the working lip of the oil seal with engine oil. When installing the oil pump, carefully push the working edge of the oil seal onto the crankshaft journal using a wooden stick. After this, tighten the oil pump mounting bolts.

17. Install all removed parts on the vehicle in reverse order.

18. Adjust the timing belt tension (see "Timing Belt Tension Adjustment (camshaft drive)").

19. Adjust the tension of the generator drive belt (see "Checking the alternator drive belt tension and replacing it").

20. Fill the engine with oil (see "Changing engine oil and oil filter").
