To change the oil in a car engine, you will need: a 17 mm wrench, a special wrench for unscrewing the oil filter or a large screwdriver, a funnel, and a clean rag.
Caution: Do not drain used engine oil onto the ground.
1. Place the vehicle on a level, horizontal surface.
2. Clean the drain plug on the oil pan with a wire brush, then with a rag. Unscrew the drain plug, having first placed a container underneath to collect the drained oil, and drain the oil.
3. Replace the drain plug on the oil pan.
4. Using a special key, loosen the oil filter and remove it.
5. Before installing a new oil filter, fill it with engine oil to approximately half its volume and lubricate the filter sealing ring with engine oil (if the sealing ring of the new filter is not treated with grease or talc by the manufacturer).
6. Screw the oil filter back into place (by hand without using tools) 3/4 of a turn from the moment the ring contacts the cylinder block flange.
7. Unscrew the oil filler cap and pour clean engine oil into the engine (see "Checking the level and adding oil to the lubrication system"). Replace the oil filler cap.
8. Start the engine of the car and let it idle for a few minutes (the oil pressure warning light should go out 2-3 seconds after the engine is started). While the engine is running, check for oil leaks from the drain plug and oil filter. Turn off the engine in the car, check the oil level, add oil if necessary, tighten the plug and oil filter.
