The design of the engine lubrication system on a car is shown in the figure 4.7.

The engine lubrication system is combined: the main and connecting rod bearings of the crankshaft and the camshaft supports are lubricated under pressure; splashing - cylinder walls, pistons with piston rings, piston pins, camshaft cams, valve tappets and stems.

The engine lubrication system consists of an oil sump 15, a gear oil pump with an oil receiver 16, a full-flow oil filter 19, an oil pressure sensor 7 and oil channels.

When the oil pressure is low, below the permissible level, the oil pressure warning light comes on on the instrument panel.

The gear oil pump, with internal engagement gears 10 and 11, is located on the front end of the cylinder block. The driving gear 10 of the oil pump is mounted on two flats on the front end of the crankshaft. To reduce mechanical losses, the gears have trochoidal engagement. Oil receiver 16 is bolted to the cover of the second main bearing and to the oil pump housing. To limit the maximum pressure in the lubrication system, a pressure reducing valve 8 is installed on the oil pump.

Oil filter 19 is full-flow, non-separable, with a bypass valve 18 and an anti-drain valve 13.

The work on replacing the engine oil and oil filter is described at the beginning of the section. "Engine"; removal, installation and repair of oil pump.
