In a car workshop with special equipment, the radiator can be checked and repaired.
To replace the radiator of the cooling system on a car, you will need: «on 10» (more comfortable socket head), Phillips screwdriver, pliers with long thin jaws.
1. Drain the coolant from the cooling system (see «Coolant replacement»).
2. Remove the radiator fan (see «Removal and installation of the electric fan of a radiator with a casing»).
3. Loosen the clamp fastening the upper pipe to the radiator...
4.... and remove the upper pipe from the radiator.
5. Similarly disconnect from a radiator the bottom branch pipe.
6. Loosen the hose clamp to the expansion tank and remove the hose from the radiator fitting.
7. Turn away two nuts of fastening of a radiator to a body.
8. Tilt the radiator towards the engine and pull it up.
9. Remove the two lower mounting pads from the radiator if they remain on the radiator mounting pins...
10.... or remove them from the holes in the cross member if they remain on the body. Replace torn or loose cushions.
11. Remove the rubber-metal bushings from the radiator brackets. Replace torn or loose rubber bushings.
12. Rinse the outside of the radiator with a jet of water and dry. If there are cracks on the plastic tanks of the radiator, replace the radiator on the car.
13. Check the tightness of the radiator, for which plug its pipes and lower it into a container with water, supplying air to it at a pressure of 0.1 MPa (1 kgf/sm.kv.). No air bubbles should appear from the radiator for at least 30 seconds. If the radiator does not fit completely into the container, check it sequentially from all sides.
14. Install the radiator on the car in the reverse order of removal, after putting the lower mounting cushions on the radiator pins and inserting the upper mounting bushings into the brackets.
15. Install the radiator fan and all removed parts in the reverse order of removal.
16. Fill with coolant (see «Coolant replacement»).
