To replace the water pump on your car, you will need: all the tools needed to remove the camshaft drive belt and tension roller, as well as 10 and 17 mm wrenches and two screwdrivers.
1. Disconnect the wire from the negative terminal of the battery.
2. Drain the coolant from the cooling system (see "Replacing the coolant").
3. Set the piston of the 1st cylinder to the TDC position (see "Setting the piston of the first cylinder to the TDC position of the compression stroke").
4. Remove the tension roller (see "Timing Belt Replacement (camshaft drive) and tension roller").
5. Remove the camshaft timing pulley (see "Replacing the cylinder head gasket").

6. Unscrew the nut and bolt securing the rear cover of the camshaft drive...

7. ...and three bolts securing the water pump (these bolts also secure the lid) and remove the rear camshaft drive cover.

8. Using a screwdriver inserted into the slot, carefully separate the water pump from the block and remove it.
9. Remove the gasket from the water pump.

10. Replace the water pump if coolant is found leaking through the drain hole (the water pump seal is damaged).

11. Replace the water pump if there is noticeable axial play of the water pump shaft (water pump bearing is damaged)...

12. Replace the water pump if cracks, chips, or flaking are found on the impeller 1, toothed pulley 2, and housing 3 of the water pump.

13. Check the tightness of the water pump bearing lock screw. Tighten the screw if necessary.
14. Install the water pump on the Lada Kalina in the reverse order of removal.
15. Install the remaining parts on the vehicle in the reverse order of removal. Install the camshaft pulley with the protruding part of the hub facing the engine. After this, check the alignment of the TDC marks on the camshaft pulley and the rear cover of the drive belt (see "Setting the piston of the first cylinder to the TDC position of the compression stroke"). Adjust the timing belt tension (see "Timing Belt Tension Adjustment (camshaft drive)") and fill the engine cooling system with coolant (see "Replacing the coolant").
