Checking the condition and replacing the power steering pump drive belt (XRAY 1)

In accordance with the maintenance regulations, we check the condition of the power steering pump drive belt every 10 thousand km.

We carry out the work by placing the car on a level surface.

To check the belt tension...

...we press with our finger on the belt in the middle between the pulleys of the power steering pump and the crankshaft.

With a pressing force of about 10 kgf, the belt deflection should be about 15-20 mm.

To adjust the belt tension...

...using a 13 mm open-end wrench, loosen the nut on the bolt that secures the upper mounting of the pump bracket to the tensioner bracket.

Using a mounting blade, move the upper pump mounting bolt in the bracket slots, tighten the belt and tighten the nut.

We replace the power steering pump drive belt if cracks, tears, or separation of the rubber from the fabric base are detected.

To replace the belt, loosen the nut on the bolt that secures the upper mounting of the pump bracket to the tensioner bracket...

...and move the power steering pump towards the cylinder block.

We remove the belt from the pulleys of the power steering pump and crankshaft.

New belt (width 10.7 mm, length 944 mm) install in reverse order.

After installation, adjust the belt tension.
