You will need: all the tools needed to remove the camshaft drive belt and idler pulley, wrenches «on 10», «at 17», hex key «by 5», two screwdrivers.
1. Disconnect the wire from the terminal «minus» battery.
2. Drain the coolant (see «Coolant replacement»).
3. Set the piston of the 1st cylinder to the TDC position (see «Setting the piston of the first cylinder to the TDC position of the compression stroke»).
4. Remove the tension roller (see «Replacing the timing belt and tensioner pulley»).
5. Remove the camshaft pulleys (see «Replacing the cylinder head gasket»).
6. Remove the rear protective cover of the timing gear (see «Replacing the cylinder head gasket»).
7. Hex key «by 5» Remove the three water pump mounting bolts.
8. Inserting a screwdriver into the slot, carefully separate the pump from the block and remove it.
9. Remove gasket from pump.
Note. If the gasket remains on the engine, remove it from there. Replace the gasket with a new one each time the pump is removed.
10. Replace the water pump if coolant is leaking from the drain hole (damaged pump seal)...
11.... there is a noticeable axial play of the pump shaft (damaged pump bearing)...
12.... cracks, chips, spalling were found on the toothed pulley 1, impeller 2 and pump housing 3.
13. Check tightness of pump bearing set screw. Tighten the screw if necessary.
14. Install the pump in the reverse order of removal. The number on the pump must point upwards.
15. Install the removed parts on the block head and connect the hoses and wires to it in the reverse order of removal. Install the intake camshaft pulley with the disk that ensures the operation of the phase sensor to the engine. Install the exhaust camshaft pulley in the same way. Adjust the timing belt tension (see «Replacing the timing belt and tensioner pulley») and alternator drive belt (see «Checking the alternator drive belt tension») and fill with coolant (see «Coolant replacement»).
