Note. If coolant such as antifreeze is poured into the cooling system, it should be replaced every 40 thousand kilometers or 2 years of operation.
Note. You will need: key «at 13», Phillips screwdriver, coolant, clean rag.
Attention! Use manufacturer recommended coolants (see annex 2).
Attention! Change the coolant only when the engine is cold.
Warning! The coolant is toxic, so be careful when handling it.
Attention! When starting the engine, the expansion tank cap must be closed. Screw on the cork tightly. When the engine is running, the cooling system is under pressure, so coolant may leak from under a loose cap.
1. Place the vehicle on a viewing ditch or lift.
2. Turn away a stopper of a broad tank. Remove the engine mudguard (see «Removal and installation of a mudguard of the engine»).
Note. It is not necessary to remove the engine crankcase protection, but in this case, measures will have to be taken against coolant drips on the platform under the car, since it will splash heavily from the drain holes on the protection.
3. Place a container under the engine and unscrew the drain plug on the cylinder block. After draining the coolant, wipe off any traces of coolant from the cylinder block.
4. Place a container under the radiator, unscrew the drain plug on the radiator..
5.... and wait until the coolant is completely drained from the system.
Warning! Antifreeze is deadly poisonous to all living things. Therefore, in order not to pollute the environment, drain it from the cylinder block and radiator through a funnel (e.g. made from a plastic bottle).
Note. The radiator drain plug is sealed with a rubber ring, do not lose it. Replace a torn or hardened ring.
6. Screw plugs into the block of cylinders and a radiator.
7. Loosen the clamp and disconnect the coolant drain hose from the throttle assembly heating fitting. This is necessary so that as the engine cooling system fills up, air comes out of it. If this is not done, due to the formation of air locks, the coolant will not completely fill the system.
8. Fill the engine cooling system by pouring coolant into the expansion tank until it starts to flow from the hose disconnected from the throttle assembly. At this point, install the hose in place and tighten the hose clamp.
9. Continue adding fluid until the level is at the mark «MAX», applied to the wall of the expansion tank (after starting the engine, the coolant will force out the remaining air and the level in the tank will drop slightly). Wrap a stopper of a broad tank.
Attention! Screw the cap on the expansion tank tightly. When the engine is running, the expansion tank is under pressure, so coolant may leak from under a loosely wrapped plug.
10. Install the engine mudguard.
11. Start the engine and let it warm up to operating temperature (before turning on the fan). Then stop the engine, check the coolant level (see «Checking the level and topping up the coolant»).
Attention! Do not fill the liquid into the expansion tank above the mark «MAX», since when the engine warms up, its level in the tank rises greatly.
Attention! When the engine is running, watch the coolant temperature on the gauge. If the arrow has moved to the red zone, and the fan does not turn on, turn on the heater and check how much air flows through it. If heated air flows through the heater, most likely the fan is faulty, if it is cold, then an air lock has formed in the engine cooling system. After that, turn off the engine. In order to remove the air lock, let the engine cool down and unscrew the plug of the expansion tank (be careful: if the engine is not completely cool, the coolant may splash out of the reservoir). Start the engine, let it run for 3-5 minutes and close the reservoir cap
Note. For better filling of the system without air pockets, periodically squeeze the radiator hoses by hand.
Note. After a few days of operation of the car after replacing the coolant, check its level. Top up coolant if necessary.
Note. If after a very short time the fresh liquid has changed color to brown, then you have poured a fake into which the manufacturers «forgot» add corrosion inhibitors. In addition, one of the signs of a fake is a sharp complete discoloration of the liquid. Good quality coolant dye is very persistent and only darkens over time. The liquid, tinted with linen blue, is discolored. Such «antifreeze» needs to be replaced quickly.
