Execution sequence
1. We prepare the car for work (see «Preparing the car for maintenance and repair»).
2. Remove the right side of the engine mudguard.
3. Visually check the condition of the alternator drive belt. We apply a force of 98 N (10 kgf) to the belt exactly in the middle between the alternator pulley and the engine crankshaft pulley.
Recommendation. If cracks, signs of wear or other damage are found on the belt, the belt should be replaced. A properly adjusted belt should flex about 8mm. If the belt deflection is not correct, adjust the belt tension. If it is difficult to estimate the force created by the hand, you can use a household steelyard with a maximum load of 10 kg.
4. To adjust, remove the windshield washer reservoir (see «Windshield washer reservoir - removal and installation»).
5. With a 19 mm open-end wrench, unscrew the lock nut of the tensioning mechanism. Rotating the adjusting pin with a socket wrench by 8 mm, we change the tension of the generator drive belt (clockwise to increase the tension of the belt, and counterclockwise to decrease).
Warning. Excessive belt tension can lead to failure of the alternator front bearing.
6. Check the tension of the alternator belt (see above) and repeat the adjustment if necessary.
7. After making sure that the belt is tensioned correctly, while holding the adjusting pin, tighten the lock nut.
8. Install the engine mudguard.
