Comment. Fuses and relays for the engine management system are located in the center console of the instrument panel (see more details. «Fuses and relays of the engine management system - replacement»).
Fuse and relay mounting block:
1 - installation location of the headlight wiper relay, K1;
2 - relay for switching on the main beam of headlights, K7;
3 - relay for turning on the sound signal K8;
4 - relay for turning on window regulators of doors, K2;
5 - installation location of the relay for turning on the fog lights, K9;
6 - starter relay;
7 - relay for turning on the heating of the rear window, K10;
8 - additional relay, K4;
9 - relay for turning on seat heating, K11;
10 - relay for turning on direction indicators and alarms, K5;
11 - place of installation of the backup relay, K12;
12 - relay for switching on the wiper and windshield washer, K6;
13 - tweezers for extracting fuses and relays with a small body;
14 - tweezers for removing the relay;
15 - spare fuses;
16 - installation location of the ABS fuse, F28;
17 - electric power steering fuse, F27;
18 - fuses F1-F26.
Note 1. The serial numbers of fuses and relays are indicated on the body of the mounting block. The purpose of the relay and the circuits protected by fuses are indicated by conventional symbols on the inside of the cover of the mounting block. The current strength is also indicated for the fuses.
Note 2. Mounting blocks from different manufacturers may vary slightly in the number and location of fuses.
Table 13.6.1. Fuses and Protected Circuits
Note. In parentheses are the differences for the mounting block, which is numbered for 31 fuses. When replacing fuses, follow the symbols on the cover of the mounting block.
* Installed on some cars.
Warning! Before replacing a fuse, it is necessary to determine and eliminate the cause of its blown. In order to avoid failure of electrical equipment elements, fuses with an increased rating or home-made fuses should not be installed.
Execution sequence
1. We prepare the car for work and disconnect the wire terminal from the negative terminal of the battery (see «Preparing the car for maintenance and repair»).
2. Pulling the ledge on the left side of the instrument panel, open the cover of the mounting block.
3. By the serial number on the body of the mounting block, we find the fuse of the faulty circuit.
4. The fuse and relay mounting block contains tweezers to remove the fuses.
5. Squeeze the fuse case with tweezers and remove the fuse from the block. A bad fuse can be identified by a blown filament.
Recommendation. Sometimes the thread of the fuse remains intact, while its connection inside the fuse is broken. It is impossible to visually determine such a malfunction. In this case, you can evaluate the condition of the fuse using an ohmmeter or test lamp.
6. Install a new fuse of the appropriate rating.
7. If it is necessary to replace the relay, remove it with a puller located in the mounting block.
8. Install a new relay of the same type.
9. Close the cover of the mounting block and connect the battery.
