Removal
1. Prepare the car for work and disconnect the wire terminal from the negative terminal of the battery (see "Preparing the car for maintenance and repair").
2. Remove the engine splash guard or crankcase protection (if installed).
3. Disconnect the wiring harness connector from the generator.
4. Remove the protective rubber cover and use a 13 mm socket wrench to unscrew the nut securing the wire ends to the "B+" terminal of the generator.
5. Remove the tips of the two wires from the contact bolt.
6. Release the three spring clips securing the rectifier block casing and remove the casing from the generator.
7. Disconnect the voltage regulator wire connector from the rectifier block terminal.
8. Using an 8 mm socket wrench, unscrew the two bolts securing the voltage regulator.
9. Using a 12 mm open-end wrench, unscrew the contact bolt nut.
10. Disconnect the terminal from the contact bolt and remove the voltage regulator.
Installation
We install the voltage regulator in the reverse order of removal. Before installing a voltage regulator that is in operation, inspect the brushes and make sure they are mobile. If the brushes are broken or badly worn (protrude from the brush holder by no more than 5 mm), or they get stuck in the brush holder, the regulator must be replaced.
