1. Remove both front wheels from the vehicle.
2. Remove the battery (see "Removal and installation the battery").
3. From inside the passenger compartment, unscrew the bolt securing the drive shaft clamp to the steering gear drive pinion shaft (see "Removal and installation the steering cardan shaft"), having previously set the steering wheel to the position of straight-line movement of the car.
4. Disconnect both steering rods from the steering arms (see "Removal and installation the outer tie rod end and replacing the ball joint boot").
5. Unscrew two steering gear mounting nuts on both sides (this work can be done through the holes for the steering rods).
6. Remove the steering gear mounting clamps from the studs and remove the steering gear with rods through the opening in the left wheel well. 7. Disconnect the steering rods from the steering gear (see "Removal and installation the inner tie rod end") and remove the plates.
8. Cut off the plastic clamp...

9. ...and remove the plastic steering rack bushing (perform similar work on the reverse side of the steering rack).
10. Remove the rubber cushions of the steering rack mounting clamps.
11. Cut off the two plastic clamps securing the steering rack boot to the steering shaft...
12. ...and remove the steering rack boot from the steering shaft.
13. Assemble and install the steering gear on the vehicle in reverse order. The steering rack should be in the middle position (in the position of straight-line movement of the car), i.e. the marks on the boot and the crankcase must match, and the chamfer on the gear shaft must be on the right. If the pinion turns, move the steering rack to one side until it stops. Then move the steering rack to the other side by one full turn of the mark on the boot and bring the mark to coincide with the mark on the steering mechanism. After completing all installation work, check and, if necessary, adjust the wheel alignment angles on the vehicle (collapse convergence).
