Removal
1. Disconnect the intermediate shaft of the steering column from the steering gear (see 127, "Steering column - removal and installation").
Warning: To prevent damage to the contact ring on vehicles with a steering column airbag, secure the steering shaft from turning.
2. Disconnect the steering rods from the steering gear ("Steering rod - removal and installation").
3. Using a 13 mm socket wrench with a ratchet, unscrew the two nuts of the right steering gear mounting bracket and remove the bracket.
4. Similarly, remove the left steering gear mounting bracket.
5. Using side cutters, cut the clamp...
...remove the protective cap from the steering gear.
6. Remove the right support.
7. Using side cutters, cut through the two plastic clamps securing the protective cover of the steering gear on the right 1 and left 2 sides of the steering gear.
8. Remove the protective cover from the steering gear housing.
Installation
1. Place FIOL-1 grease into the internal cavity of the steering gear housing.
2. Put the protective cover on the steering gear housing. We fix it with new clamps.
3. Place the right support and protective cap on the steering mechanism. We fix the steering gear cap with a new clamp.
4. Fasten to the steering mechanism with brackets. Tighten the nuts of the brackets with a torque of 15-18.6 N·m (1.5-1.9 kgf·m)
5. Attach the rods to the steering mechanism ("Steering rod - removal and installation").
6. Fasten the intermediate shaft of the steering column to the shaft of the steering gear ("Steering column - removal and installation").
