The front wheel hub bearing is non-adjustable. If play appears in the bearing, it must be replaced.

To complete the work you will need an assistant, and you will also need:
  • reliable car stand;
  • internal snap ring pliers;
  • a set of tools for replacing the hub bearing.

Removal



Warning! Only press out the hub bearing if you are replacing it, as it will most likely be damaged during removal.


1. Prepare the car for work (see "Preparing the car for maintenance and repair").

2. Remove the decorative cap from the wheel (see above, "Wheel - replacement").

3. Place wheel chocks under the front wheels of the car.

Warning: Attempting to remove the hub axle nut without straightening the dented edge may damage the axle threads.


4. Tapping the center punch with a hammer, bend back the edge of the nut that is jammed into the groove of the drive shaft (in two places).

5. The assistant presses the brake pedal and holds it down.

6. Using a 30 mm socket wrench with a long handle, loosen the front wheel hub nut.

7. Remove the front wheel (see "Wheel - replacement") and unscrew the hub nut.



8. Remove the brake caliper without disconnecting the brake hose from it (see "Front Brake Caliper - Removal and Installation").

9. Remove the brake disc (see "Brake disc - removal and installation").

10. Unscrew the two bolts securing the ball joint to the steering knuckle (see "Ball joint of the rack - removal and installation").

11. Loosen the nuts securing the upper support of the strut to the body by several turns (see "Front suspension strut - removal and installation").

12. Pressing the lower suspension arm down, move the lower end of the strut to the side and remove the outer CV joint tail from the hub (see "Front Wheel Drive - Removal and Installation").

Warning: When performing the following operation, the force of the puller power bolt must be applied to the end surface of the hub, and not to the bearing race.

Installation



1. Carefully clean the bearing bore in the steering knuckle from dirt and corrosion.

2. Using a puller, install the retaining ring on the outside of the bearing.

Warning! When performing the following operation (bearing pressing) the force of the puller power bolt should be applied only to the outer ring of the bearing.


3. Press the new bearing into the steering knuckle until it stops against the retaining ring.

4. Using a puller, install the retaining ring on the inside of the bearing.

Warning! When pressing the hub, the power bolt must rest only on the inner bearing race.

6. Insert the drive shaft into the splined hole of the hub.

7. Place the thrust washer on the shaft and tighten the new hub nut.

8. Install all removed parts in reverse order.

9. Install the wheel (see "Wheel - replacement") and lower the car. We fix the wheel with wheel chocks, and the assistant presses the brake pedal.

10. Tighten the hub bearing nut to a torque of 225.6-247.2 Nm (23-25.2 kgf·m).

11. Press the edge of the nut into the grooves of the drive shaft (in two places) and we install the hub cap.
