To perform the work, you will need a reliable support for the car, a puller for internal locking wheels and a set of tools for replacing the hub bearing.
We perform the work with an assistant.
Removal
Warning! Only press out the hub bearing if you are replacing it, as it will most likely be damaged during removal.
1. Prepare the car for work ("Preparing the car for maintenance and repair").
2. Remove the decorative cap from the wheel (see p. 107, "Wheel - replacement"). Using a slotted screwdriver, remove the hub cover.
Warning: Attempting to loosen the hub axle nut without straightening its crimped edge may damage the axle threads.
3. Lightly tapping the center punch with a hammer, bend back the edge of the nut that is pressed into the groove of the hub axle.
4. The assistant presses the brake pedal and holds it pressed.
5. Using a 30 mm socket wrench with a long handle, loosen the hub nut.
6. Remove the front wheel ("Wheel - replacement") and unscrew the hub nut.
7. Remove the brake caliper without disconnecting the brake hose from it ("Front Brake Caliper - Removal and Installation").
8. Remove the brake disc ("Brake disc - removal and installation").
9. Unscrew the two bolts securing the ball joint to the steering knuckle ("Ball joint of the rack - removal and installation").
10. Loosen the nuts securing the upper support of the strut to the body by a few turns ("Front suspension strut - removal and installation").
11. Pressing the lower suspension arm down, move the lower end of the strut to the side and remove the outer CV joint tailpiece from the hub ("Front Wheel Drive - Removal and Installation").
Warning: When performing the following operation, the force of the puller power bolt must be applied to the end surface of the hub, and not to the bearing race.
12. We rest the paws of the puller against the steering knuckle and, turning the bolt nut, press the hub out of the steering knuckle.
13. Using a puller, squeeze and remove the retaining ring from the outer side of the hub bearing.
14. From the back of the steering knuckle, use a puller to compress and remove the other hub bearing retaining ring.
15. Install the device and press the bearing out of the steering knuckle.
16. If the inner bearing ring remains on the hub, press it off using the puller from the kit or a universal two-jaw puller (there are special recesses on the hub for installing the puller's paws).
Installation
1. Carefully clean the bearing bore in the steering knuckle from dirt and corrosion.
2. Using a puller, install the retaining ring on the outside of the bearing.
Warning! When performing the following operation (bearing pressing) the force of the puller power bolt should be applied only to the outer ring of the bearing.
3. Press the new bearing into the steering knuckle until it stops against the retaining ring.
4. Using a puller, install the retaining ring on the inside of the bearing.
Warning! When pressing the hub, the power bolt must rest only on the inner bearing race.
5. Using the tool, press the hub into the inner bearing ring.
6. Insert the drive shaft into the splined hole of the hub.
7. Place the thrust washer on the shaft and tighten the new hub nut.
8. Install all removed parts in reverse order.
9. Install the wheel ("Wheel - replacement") and lower the car. We fix the wheel with wheel chocks, and the assistant presses the brake pedal.
10. Tighten the hub bearing nut to a torque of 225.6-247.2 N·m (23-25.2 kgf·m).
11. Press the edge of the nut into the grooves of the drive shaft (in two places) and install the hub cap.
