First, check the pressure in the fuel supply system on the car by connecting a pressure gauge to the fitting on the fuel rail in the engine compartment (see «Checking the fuel pressure in the engine power system»).
If the pressure in the supply system is above 400 kPa (4.0 kgf/cm2), then the pressure regulator installed in the fuel pump module is faulty, and it must be replaced (see «Fuel pump repair (fuel pump)»).
If the pressure in the engine power system is below 380 kPa (3.8 kgf/cm2), replace the fuel filter (see «Fuel filter replacement»).
If this does not help, try removing the fuel pump and flushing the mesh of its receiver. If in this case the pressure does not increase, the fuel pump must be replaced.
To remove, install and replace the fuel pump on a car, you will need: a screwdriver, a punch, a hammer.
1. Reduce the pressure in the engine power system (see «Reduced fuel pressure in the engine power system»).
2. Fold forward the rear seat cushion (see Seats - seat adjustment «Folding the rear seat»).
3. Lift the cut-out parts of the mat and thermal and noise insulation over the hatch in the base of the body.
4. Turn out four screws of fastening of a cover of the hatch over the petrol pump and remove a cover.
5. Disconnect the wiring harness connector from the fuel pump by depressing its spring clip.
6. Disconnect the fuel hoses from the fuel pump fittings by depressing their spring clips and sliding the fuel hoses along the fittings.
7. Using a screwdriver, move the spring plate of the fuel pump bayonet mount counterclockwise...
8.... and, turning the plate until the four cutouts in it are aligned with the protrusions on the fuel tank flange, remove the plate.
9. Remove the fuel pump from the fuel tank by tilting it to the side so as not to bend the lever of the fuel gauge sensor and not to turn the float on the lever. Otherwise, the readings of the fuel gauge on the instrument panel will be incorrect.
10. Remove the rubber o-ring from the fuel tank flange. A badly compressed, hardened or torn ring must be replaced to prevent gasoline leakage.
11. Establish on the car the petrol pump and all removed details in an order, the return to removal. After installation, tighten the spring plate for fastening the fuel pump a little with light blows of a hammer through a drift.
