The electrical equipment of the car is made according to a single-wire scheme: the negative terminals of the sources and consumers of electrical energy are connected to the "ground", the function of the second wire is performed by the car body. The electrical circuits of the engine control system are made according to a multi-wire scheme and are connected to the vehicle ground only through the electronic control unit. The electrical equipment diagram, the layout of the vehicle's wiring harnesses, and the electrical connection diagrams of the VAZ 21114 engine control systems for Euro-2 and Euro-3 toxicity standards are provided on the main page of the Operation, Maintenance and Repair Manual.

A combined ignition switch (lock) is used to switch the main circuits, consisting of a contact part and a mechanical anti-theft device with a lock. The switches for the exterior lighting and fog lights are combined into the exterior lighting control unit.

The switch for the operating modes of the electric fan of the passenger compartment heater, the switch for heating the rear window, and the switch for the hazard warning lights are located on the instrument panel console trim. The switches for the headlights, direction indicators, wipers and washers are combined into a block of steering column switches. High-power electrical consumers are switched on via electromagnetic relays.

Attention! Carry out any work on the vehicle's electrical equipment only with the battery disconnected. The battery can only be disconnected or connected when the ignition is off. When checking electrical equipment circuits, it is prohibited to short-circuit the wires to ground (check the circuits for a spark), as this may lead to failure of the electrical equipment components. It is prohibited to use fuses that are not provided for by the vehicle design or are designed for a higher current, as well as to use wire instead of fuses.

Warning! When replacing fuses, do not use screwdrivers or metal tools, as this may cause a short circuit in the electrical circuits. It is prohibited to disconnect the battery while the engine is running to avoid damage to the voltage regulator and electronic components of the vehicle. To prevent the rectifier block diodes from failing, it is prohibited to check them with a megohmmeter or a test lamp supplied with a voltage of more than 12 V on the vehicle without disconnecting the wires from the generator. It is necessary to check the insulation resistance of the generator stator winding with increased voltage on a generator removed from the vehicle, with the stator winding terminals disconnected from the rectifier unit. When carrying out electric welding work on a vehicle, it is necessary to disconnect the wires from the battery terminals and the generator and controller terminals.

Caution! Do not touch ignition system components or high-voltage wires while the engine is running. Do not run low voltage wires in the same bundle with high voltage wires. Regularly clean the battery terminals and cable ends from oxidation and dirt. When recharging the battery using a charger, disconnect the electrical equipment wires from the battery terminals.
