It is very important to detect in time that a tire has been punctured. While driving, pay attention to the car's behavior: if it accelerates poorly, the effort on the steering wheel increases when maneuvering, or directional stability deteriorates, be sure to check the tire pressure.
The easiest way to repair a wheel is to go to the nearest tire shop, where the repair will be done quickly, professionally and, as a rule, at a very affordable price.
The damaged wheel needs to be replaced with a spare one. However, this rather simple operation requires some skill.
If you have a flat tire, turn on the hazard warning lights, brake smoothly to a speed of 2-3 km/h, try to carefully move to the edge of the roadway in first gear and stop as far to the right as possible at the side of the road, and if possible, outside the roadway. If road conditions permit and it does not contradict the requirements of the Road Traffic Regulations, if any tire on the right side of the car is punctured, pull over to the right side of the road; if the tire on the left is punctured, pull over to the left side of the road. Avoid stopping the car in places where the road is poorly visible: on sharp turns, on descents and ascents, bridges, in tunnels. If the car remains on the roadway, first of all ensure your own safety and the safety of other road users! Turn on the hazard warning lights and install the emergency stop sign.
Wheel replacement
To change a wheel on a car you will need: a wheel wrench, a jack, a spare wheel, a pressure gauge, and a pump.
1. Place the vehicle on a level surface and place chocks under the wheels. If you are changing a front wheel, apply the parking brake.
2. Open the trunk lid and fold back the mat by the loop.
3. Remove the spare wheel well cover.
4. Unscrew the mounting bolt and remove the spare wheel from the trunk.
5. Remove the decorative wheel cap (when installing them on a vehicle).
6. Use a wheel wrench to loosen the wheel mounting bolts. This may require a lot of effort.
7. Install the jack and raise the car. If the vehicle is parked on soft ground, place a wide, firm support under the lower support of the jack (a board of at least 300x300x20 mm in size, a flat stone, etc.).
8. Completely unscrew the wheel mounting bolts and remove the wheel.
9. Install the spare tire onto the mounting pins. Tighten the mounting bolts without tightening them completely.
10. Lower the vehicle to the ground and tighten the wheel bolts evenly in a crisscross pattern. To avoid damaging the wheel rim, do not try to "tighten" the wheel mounting bolts by pressing the wrench handle with your foot.
11. Before continuing to drive the vehicle, be sure to check the air pressure in the tire of the installed wheel and, if necessary, bring it up to normal.
