Set the steering wheel to the straight-ahead position of the car, the wheels should also be in the straight-ahead position. Otherwise, determine the cause of the steering malfunction and correct it.
While turning the steering wheel from lock to lock, check the following visually and audibly:
- reliability of fastening of the steering gear and steering wheel;
- lack of clearance in silent blocks (rubber-metal hinges), steering rod joints, riveted and splined joints of the steering shaft elastic coupling; - reliability of bolt tightening 20 (see figure 7.2) and locking them with plate 21 fastening the rods to the rack and nuts of the hinge pins of the outer ends 4 (see figure 7.1) steering rods;
- absence of jamming and interference that prevents the steering wheel from turning.
If knocking and sticking are detected, disconnect the transverse rods from the pivot arms of the telescopic suspension struts and repeat the check.
