Execution sequence
1. We prepare the car for work (see «Preparing the car for maintenance and repair»).
2. Through the grilles in the bumper cover, inspect the condition of the condenser (air conditioning radiator) if necessary, clean it from dirt and insects (see «Air conditioning - maintenance»).
3. Using the electric fan speed adjustment knob, turn on the four speeds of the electric fan in turn. By the intensity of the air flow from the deflectors, we check the operation of the electric fan and the change in the speed of its rotation.
Recommendation. If the electric fan does not work, check the fuse F45 (30 A), located in the fuse box in the passenger compartment. If the electric fan does not work at one of the speeds, it is necessary to find out the reason (see «Checking and repairing electrical circuits»). If all fan speeds are working, but the airflow is low, the air intake grille and air conditioner filter are clogged.
4. Turn the handle of the air conditioner electric fan switch to the maximum operating speed. Pressing in turn the buttons of the switch for selecting the modes of distribution of air flows, we monitor the change in the direction of the air flow.
Recommendation. If there is no change in flow distribution, then the damper motor or control unit is most likely faulty.
5. We start the engine. We warm up the engine to operating temperature and make sure that both: the inlet and outlet pipes of the radiator of the air conditioner heater are heated and have approximately the same temperature.
Recommendation. If this is not the case, the cause may be: an air lock in the cooling system, a low fluid level in the cooling system, or a clogged heater core. You can release air from the system through a special valve (see «Checking the technical condition of the cooling system»),
6. Turn the temperature regulator of the control unit clockwise to the red zone until it stops and make sure that the temperature of the air leaving the instrument panel deflectors starts to rise.
Comment. If the temperature does not rise, then the control unit or damper actuator is faulty.
7. During the operation of the heater, we make sure that the windows do not fog up and the humidity in the cabin does not increase.
Comment. An increase in humidity indicates a leak in the heater core, and it must be replaced. Clogging of the filter can also lead to fogging of glasses (for air conditioning with filter) and a malfunction of the electric recirculation damper.
8. By pressing the button 1 of the recirculation mode switch, we make sure that this mode is working according to the lit control lamp 2.
9. On a car with air conditioning, by pressing the button, turn on the air conditioner.
10. Having opened the hood, we make sure that the electric fan has turned on. If the electric fan does not work, troubleshoot (see «Electric fan of the cooling system - check and replace»).
11. We make sure that the temperature of the air leaving the instrument panel deflectors starts to drop.
Recommendation. If the temperature does not drop, check the condition of the accessory drive belt (see «Accessory drive belt - check and replace»). If the air conditioning system is faulty, it is advisable to contact a specialized workshop to diagnose and repair the air conditioning system. To replace the air conditioner fan, the instrument panel must be removed from the vehicle. You can replace the air conditioning control unit yourself.
