The air conditioning system of the car is a combination of heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems and is designed to ventilate the passenger compartment and to control the temperature of the air in the passenger compartment. The ventilation system of the vehicle interior is supply and exhaust. The air conditioning system can be equipped with a filter with a replaceable element for cleaning the air entering the passenger compartment. For interior heating, the temperature of the heated liquid of the engine cooling system is used.
The system uses R134a refrigerant. For removing air conditioning units (e.g. to replace a condenser) the refrigerant must first be removed from the system. It is necessary to fill the system using a special charging station that has a pump to remove air and moisture from the system. Therefore, the performance of these works should be entrusted to a specialized service station, where there is the necessary equipment. This chapter describes operations that do not require special skills or equipment.
As the vehicle is driven, the efficiency of the air conditioning decreases. In a year, even in a sealed system, the amount of refrigerant can decrease by 15% (this is due to its increased penetrating power). Therefore, the air conditioning system requires regular preventive maintenance.
Warning! To top up the air conditioning system with refrigerant should be in technical centers specializing in the repair and maintenance of automotive air conditioners. In organizations serving domestic air conditioning systems and refrigeration units, freon R12 or R22 is used. Mixing of different refrigerants is not allowed.
