When the ignition is turned on, the electric power steering control unit provides information (light fault code) about problems with the power steering by flashing the signal lamp in the instrument cluster. The time parameters of the light code are presented in Table. 9.10.
Table 9.10. Electric Power Steering (EPS) fault light codes
| Type of malfunction of the electric power steering | Alarm operating mode |
| No engine crankshaft speed signal Electric power steering torque sensor malfunction Electric power steering engine malfunction Steering shaft position sensor failure Malfunction of the rotor position sensor of the EPS engine Low voltage of the vehicle's on-board network Electric power steering controller malfunction No signal from vehicle speed sensor | 1 long, 2 short* 1 long, 3 short 1 long, 4 short 1 long, 5 short 1 long, 6 short 1 long, 7 short 1 long, 8 short 1 long, 9 short |
* The time the indicator lamp burns indicates whether the signal is long or short:
- initial pause duration - 2 sec;
- long signal duration - 2 sec;
- short signal duration - 0.5 s;
- the duration of the pause between signals is 0.5 s;
- the pause duration between error codes is 2 sec.
