Starter malfunctions, their causes and solutions (Kalina 1118)

Cause of malfunction	Method of elimination
When the starter is turned on, the anchor does not rotate, the traction relay does not operate
The battery is faulty or completely discharged The battery terminals and cable ends are heavily oxidized or the cable ends are loosely tightened Interturn short circuit in the pull-in winding of the traction relay, its short circuit to ground or break Open circuit in the power supply circuit of the starter traction relay The ignition switch contact part is faulty: contacts "30" and "50" do not close Traction relay anchor jamming The additional starter relay is damaged Malfunction in the control circuit of the additional starter relay	Charge the battery Clean the terminals and wire ends, tighten and lubricate with Vaseline Replace the starter solenoid relay Check the wires and their connections in the circuit between the "50" plugs of the starter and the ignition switch Replace the ignition switch contact part Remove the starter solenoid, check the ease of movement of the anchor Replace the starter solenoid relay Check the wires and their connections between the additional starter relay and the controller. If no fault is found, replace the controller
When the starter is turned on, the anchor does not rotate or rotates too slowly, the traction relay is triggered

When the starter is turned on, the traction relay repeatedly operates and switches off
The battery is discharged Open or short circuit in the holding winding of the starter traction relay Large voltage drop in the power supply circuit of the starter traction relay due to severe oxidation of the wire tips	Charge the battery Replace the starter solenoid relay Check the wires and their connections in the circuit from the battery to the "50" plug of the starter
When the starter is turned on, the anchor rotates, the flywheel does not rotate
Starter overrunning clutch slipping The starter gearbox gears are damaged	Replace the starter overrunning clutch Replace damaged starter gears
Starter noise when the anchor rotates
Excessive wear of the bearing shells of the anchor shafts and starter drive The starter mount is loose or its cover on the drive side is broken The starter gearbox gears are damaged The teeth of the drive gear or flywheel ring gear are damaged	Replace liners or covers and bearings with liners Tighten the mounting nuts or replace the starter Replace damaged starter gears Replace the drive or flywheel
The gear does not disengage from the flywheel
