To perform the work, an inspection ditch or overpass is required.
Execution sequence
1. We install the car on a viewing ditch or overpass and prepare it for work (see «Preparing the car for maintenance and repair»).
2. Remove the engine mudguard (see «Mudguard of the engine - removal and installation»),
3. We inspect the gearbox from all sides.
Comment. Upon inspection, we make sure that there are no oil leaks at the junctions with the front wheel drives (see «Front wheel drives - checking the technical condition»). We make sure that there are no oil leaks in the lower part of the junction of the clutch housing and the engine block.
Transmission oil leaks indicate the need to replace the gearbox input shaft seal. To perform such work, disassembly of the gearbox is required, which is advisable to entrust to a specialized service station.
4. We are convinced of the serviceability and correct adjustment of the clutch release and gear shift mechanisms. To do this, by pressing the clutch pedal, we turn on all the gears in turn, check the ease and clarity of turning them on and off. If the gears do not turn on, we try to fix the problem by adjusting the gearshift drive.
Comment. To troubleshoot the following problems (if they are found) need to repair the gearbox associated with its disassembly. This requires special equipment and high qualifications, so it is better to entrust the repair of the gearbox to a specialized service station.
5. Set the gearshift lever to neutral and start the engine. Pressing the clutch pedal several times, we listen to the sound of the operation of the gearbox bearings, which appears at the moment the clutch pedal is released and disappears when it is pressed. The loud noise of the bearings at a normal oil level indicates their wear and the need to disassemble the gearbox and repair it.
6. We check the operation of the gearbox in motion. We make sure that there are no crunches, knocks and other extraneous sounds during the operation of the box. We check the operation of the synchronizers, for this, moving first with acceleration, and then with deceleration, we shift gears with an increase, and then with a decrease. Gears should shift clearly and without a crunch, and there should not be spontaneous disengagement of gears when the load changes.
