To carry out the work, you will need an inspection pit or overpass.
Sequence of execution
1. Place the vehicle on an inspection ditch or overpass and prepare it for work (see "Preparing the car for maintenance and repair").
2. Remove the engine splash guard (see "Engine Mudguard - Removal and Installation"),
3. Inspect the gearbox from all sides.
Note: When inspecting, make sure there are no oil leaks at the connection points with the front wheel drives (see "Front Wheel Drives - Checking Technical Condition"). We make sure that there are no oil leaks in the lower part of the joint between the clutch housing and the engine cylinder block.
Transmission oil leaks indicate the need to replace the gearbox input shaft seal. To perform such work, it is necessary to disassemble the gearbox, which is advisable to entrust to a specialized service station.
4. We make sure that the clutch release and gear shift mechanisms are in good working order and correctly adjusted. To do this, press the clutch pedal, engage all gears in turn, and check the ease and clarity of their engagement and disengagement. If the gears do not engage, we try to fix the problem by adjusting the gear shift mechanism drive.
Note: To troubleshoot the following problems: (if they are detected) the gearbox needs to be repaired, which involves disassembling it. This requires special equipment and high qualifications, so it is better to entrust the repair of the gearbox to a specialized service station.
5. Set the gear shift lever to neutral position and start the engine. After pressing the clutch pedal several times, listen to the sound of the gearbox bearings, which appears when the clutch pedal is released and disappears when it is pressed. Loud noise from bearings with a normal oil level indicates that they are worn out and the need to disassemble the gearbox and repair it.
6. Check the operation of the gearbox while driving. We make sure that there is no crunching, knocking or other extraneous sounds when the gearbox is operating. We check the operation of the synchronizers, for this, moving first with acceleration, and then with deceleration, we shift gears with an increase, and then with a decrease. The gears should shift clearly and without crunching, and there should be no spontaneous gear disengagement when the load changes.
