If a problem is found during daily maintenance, it must be corrected.
Execution sequence
1. We make sure that there is no damage to the body glazing, rear-view mirrors, block headlights and fog lights, rear lights, as well as the readability of state registration plates. If these parts are dirty, clean them.
Warning! Operating a vehicle with dirty (unreadable) license plates is an administrative offense for which penalties are provided.
2. We examine the wheels of the car (see «Checking the technical condition of discs, tires and hubs»). We check the fastening elements of the wheels and vigorously press the sidewall of the wheel with our foot, swinging it in the transverse direction.
At the slightest suspicion of loosening of the wheel fastening, we check the tightening of the fastening elements with the torque indicated in the reference data.
Wheel rims must be free of cracks and signs of deformation. If the tire of one of the wheels has on the side surface «hernia», cut, crack, then replace such a wheel. With a large deformation of the tires or if you suspect that the tires are poorly inflated, we check the air pressure in the tires with a pressure gauge (see «Checking tire pressure»). If necessary, bring the pressure to normal.
3. We make sure that there are no traces of oil leaks and other technical fluids under the car.
If spilled oil or other technical liquids are found, we will definitely fix the problem. A fluid leak from the brake system can cause an accident. Oil leakage from the gearbox and engine can lead to the failure of expensive units and assemblies. A decrease in the fluid level in the expansion tank can cause the engine to overheat, and, as a result, it will require a major overhaul.
4. We make sure that the hood and luggage compartment are securely closed.
5. We make sure that all doors close tightly and are securely locked with door locks.
6. We press the brake pedal and make sure that it «elastic» - There is no air in the hydraulic brake system.
7. Turn on the ignition and make sure that the control lamps light up for a short time (see «Dashboard»).
8. To check the sound signal, press its switch (see «Governing bodies»).
9. Sequentially turn on the side light, dipped and main beam headlights, fog lights and lights, reversing lights, brake lights and alarms, while checking the inclusion of the corresponding lighting and light signaling lamps.
Comment. To check the brake signals without an assistant, you can install the car with the rear lights in front of a screen (wall, gate, etc.). The inclusion of brake signals can be observed through the rear-view mirrors by screen illumination. Another option is to install a block of wood between the brake pedal and the driver's seat. The bar should be of such length that the brake pedal is slightly depressed.
10. Pressing the brake pedal, start the engine. The engine should start on the first try. The pedal should move slightly to the floor, indicating that the vacuum brake booster is working.
11. By the extinguished control lamps on the instrument panel, we make sure that the main systems of the car are working. Burning pilot lamps (see «Dashboard») indicate a malfunction in the relevant systems that must be corrected.
Warning! The brake fluid level should be checked if the low brake fluid level warning light on the instrument panel is on.
12. By the volume of the exhaust, we determine the state of the exhaust system. With an increase in noise, it is necessary to inspect the elements of the exhaust system (see «Exhaust system») and troubleshoot. The operation of a car with a faulty exhaust system is prohibited by the Rules of the Road.
