1. Disconnect the wire from the negative terminal of the battery.
2. Remove the steering wheel (see "Removing and installing the steering wheel").

3. Turn the three fuse box cover locks counterclockwise 90°, releasing the lower part of the cover…

4. …and remove the fuse box cover.
5. Remove the steering column switches (see "Checking and replacing steering column switches").

6. Remove the four screws securing the instrument panel amplifier…

7. …and remove the amplifier.

8. Disconnect the wiring harness connector from the steering column switch connector.

9. Press the latch..

10. …and disconnect the ignition switch power wire harness connectors.

11. Disconnect the immobilizer reading coil wiring harness connectors.

12. Press the latch..

13. …and disconnect the wiring harness connector from the electromechanical power steering control unit connector.

14. Similarly, disconnect the second wiring harness connector from the control unit.

15. Loosen the nut of the tie bolt of the cardan joint of the electromechanical booster from the side of the cardan shaft of the steering gear and remove the bolt.

16. Unscrew the two upper nuts securing the electromechanical booster to the body, unscrew the two lower nuts by 3–4 turns…

17. …and remove the electromechanical amplifier from the car.

Note: This is what the steering shaft assembly looks like when removed from the vehicle.

18. Loosen the clamp securing the steering column switch connector…

19. …and remove the connector.

20. Remove the screw securing the protective cover…

21. …and remove the casing.

22. Press the latch..
