Replacing the reverse gear lock solenoid (Kalina 1118)

The reverse gear lock solenoid on a vehicle is an element of the electrical system, but since it is functionally related to the gearbox control drive, its replacement is described in this subsection. If the solenoid fails, it becomes impossible to engage reverse gear. The solenoid design is non-separable, so it must be replaced as an assembly. Before replacing the solenoid, make sure the switch mounted on the gear shift lever, fuse F21 located in the fuse/relay box, and connecting wires are in good condition.

To replace the reverse gear lock solenoid on a vehicle, you will need a 36 mm key.



1. After pressing the lock, disconnect the wiring harness connector from the solenoid.



2. Loosen the solenoid...





3. ...and unscrew the solenoid from the gearbox housing.

4. To test the solenoid, apply power to the terminals of the solenoid connector block (for example, with additional wires from the battery, the polarity of the wires is irrelevant). The tip of the solenoid core should move inside the housing. If this does not happen, replace the solenoid.

5. Install the solenoid on the Lada Kalina vehicle in the reverse order of removal. Apply anaerobic thread locker to the threaded portion of the solenoid body before installation.
