Execution sequence
1. We are convinced of the operability of the automated transmission control system, for this, turn on the ignition. Then, pressing the brake pedal, we move the selector lever in turn to all positions, while the corresponding symbols should be displayed on the information display. Then, return the selector lever to position N («neutral»).
2. We start the engine. If a howling sound is heard from the clutch housing, the clutch release bearing is probably worn out. A similar sound can be caused by worn gearbox bearings.
3. Keeping the brake pedal depressed, we switch the selector in turn to all positions, while making sure that the gearshift mechanism is working. Switching on should be easy, without crackling or crunching.
Comment. If the howling sound when disengaging the clutch (see point 2 above) intensifies - the clutch release bearing is worn out. If the sound disappears, then the gearbox bearings are worn out. If a crackling sound is heard when shifting gears, the car twitches, then the clutch is not completely disengaged. The cause may be a malfunction of the gear shift mechanism, wear or loss of elasticity of the clutch diaphragm spring, as well as a malfunction of the clutch release electric drive. To check the gearshift mechanism and the electric clutch release, it is necessary to check the trouble codes stored in the transmission control unit, so this work should be carried out at a specialized service station that has the necessary equipment.
4. Set the selector lever to position N («neutral»). We release the brake pedal, while the car should not start moving.
5. We check the operation of the gearbox in motion. To do this, turn on mode A (moving forward automatically) and slowly press the gas pedal. In this case, the clutch should engage smoothly. We move first with acceleration, and then with deceleration, we are convinced of the smooth engagement of the clutch, in a smooth gear shift (both upward and downward), in the absence of crunching, knocking and other extraneous sounds of the gearbox.
6. Turn on the M mode and repeat the check by shifting gears in manual mode. To do this, by moving the selector lever first towards the symbol «+», and then - «—». The box should work without failures, shifting gears in the selected direction.
7. We stop the car and move the selector lever to position R. After releasing the brake pedal, the car should start moving backward.
Comment:
- Jerks and rattling at the moment of engagement of the clutch can be caused by oiling or warping of the clutch discs or the destruction of the vibration damper.
- Untimely shifting of gears, or switching on a gear that does not correspond to the speed of movement, is caused by a malfunction of the transmission control unit.
- Jerks and delays when shifting gears while the car is moving, engaging gears with a blow may indicate a malfunction of the gear shifting mechanism or the clutch release electric drive. Troubleshooting such problems involves the need to read the trouble codes stored in the transmission control unit, so this work should be performed at a specialized service station that has the necessary equipment.
- In addition, when replacing a defective electric drive mechanism, it is necessary to tune the transmission control system. Otherwise, correct operation will be impossible.
Recommendation. If it is not possible to restore the operability of the gear shift mechanism or the clutch release electric drive (e.g. due to lack of spare parts), then the gearbox can be converted to manual control. To do this, it is necessary to dismantle these parts and install a cable-operated gearshift mechanism, as well as a clutch release cable.
8. When driving in third or fourth gear, sharply press the gas pedal. If the speed of the crankshaft increases quickly, and the car accelerates sluggishly, then the clutch slips.
Comment. Clutch wear may also be indicated by the appearance of a burning smell in the cabin, emitted by highly heated friction linings of the driven disk. In this case, the clutch must be replaced.
9. We prepare the car for further work (see «Preparing the car for maintenance and repair») and install it on a viewing ditch or overpass.
8. Remove the engine crankcase protection and engine mudguard (if installed).
9. We inspect the gearbox from all sides, make sure there are no transmission oil leaks.
Recommendation. If leaks are found on the gearbox housing, check the gear oil level in it, if necessary, bring the oil level to normal.
