A replaceable oil filter is used to clean the engine oil in the engine lubrication system.

A replaceable oil filter is used to clean the engine oil in the engine lubrication system.

The filter is installed on the front wall of the cylinder block.

The filter is assembled in a metal housing. The filter element in the oil filter is a special filter paper with pores of a certain size and impregnated with a special composition.

The check valve prevents oil from flowing from the lubrication system channels back into the oil pan after the engine has stopped. To prevent the filter element from rupturing due to excessive oil pressure, a safety valve is built into the filter element (bypass) valve. It allows oil to bypass the filter element when the pressure reaches a critical value. And this can be blown away at very low ambient temperatures, immediately after starting an unheated engine, when the engine oil is still thick, or when the filter has exhausted its resource. During operation, the filter element gradually fills with engine wear products. As the filter element becomes clogged with wear products and resinous deposits, the resistance that the filter provides to the oil also increases. If the filter is not changed in a timely manner, its throughput capacity decreases so much that the oil will no longer be able to pass through the filter element in the required volume. As a result, uncleaned oil will enter the lubrication system. The filter must be replaced every time the engine oil is changed. Reuse of the filter is not permitted!

When changing, install only a filter designed for these engines. When purchasing an oil filter, you need to be guided by the number in the factory catalog (see "Reference data").

Installation of filters intended for other engine models is not permitted, even if they are suitable in terms of mounting size and thread. A filter that looks similar may not have a bypass or check valve, because the filter is designed for an engine that has such a valve built into the engine lubrication system. Or the other filter has a higher bypass valve response pressure, which will result in engine parts experiencing oil starvation when the engine is not yet warmed up and the oil is thick. It is also bad if the valve operates at lower pressure, as uncleaned oil will enter the system.
