Of course, it is impossible to predict all possible circumstances. However, there are several basic scenarios on the road that you need to be prepared for: vehicle malfunction, traffic accident, sudden change in weather conditions and the driver's health condition. Here is a brief description of the steps to take in each of these cases.

The main thing to remember is to remain calm in any case and not take rash actions, as this can lead to extremely serious consequences!

Car malfunction

If the engine management system malfunction indicator lamp comes on while driving, continue driving calmly without putting unnecessary strain on the power unit. Choose the optimal speed and avoid sudden acceleration and braking. If there are significant changes in the vehicle's appearance (for example, engine power has dropped), turn on the hazard warning lights and proceed carefully to the repair site. Visit a service station as soon as possible to conduct diagnostics and identify the cause of the malfunction.

If the vehicle stalls while driving, turn on the hazard warning lights, put the transmission in neutral and bring the vehicle to a smooth stop. If possible, change lanes and stop on the side of the road. Try starting the engine again. If the engine does not start, you must first try to move the vehicle off the roadway so as not to interfere with other road users. If this fails, put up an emergency stop sign in accordance with the Road Traffic Regulations (15 m from the vehicle in a populated area or 30 m outside a populated area). After this, you should try to find out the cause of the malfunction (see "Possible car malfunctions and their causes") and fix it yourself. If the fault cannot be corrected on the spot, have the vehicle towed to the nearest service station (see "Towing a car").

Engine overheating

It is prohibited to operate the engine with the coolant temperature exceeding the operating temperature. If it happens that the car engine starts to overheat, the coolant temperature gauge scale fills up completely (see "Information display") or the engine overheating indicator light comes on, you must not immediately stop the engine and especially not cool it with improvised means. First, stop your car on the side of the road, taking all safety precautions. Turn on the air conditioning system in the maximum cabin heating mode (set the temperature regulator to maximum, the air conditioning fan to maximum speed, the recirculation mode and air conditioning must be turned off).

Warning! If the engine overheats, be careful when opening the hood if steam is coming out from under it. Do not unscrew the cap of the expansion tank of the cooling system. The heated liquid is under pressure and you may get burned.

Leave the engine idling and open the hood. If you find a break in any hose and a coolant leak, the engine must be turned off. Also check if the electric fan of the engine cooling system is working. If the fan is not working, this is most likely the cause of overheating (see "Cooling system - technical condition check"). If the coolant temperature does not drop at idle, turn off the engine. Wait for it to cool down a little and check the condition of the cooling system (see "Cooling system - technical condition check"). Correct any faults found. If you are unable to rectify the faults on site, have the vehicle towed to the nearest service station (see "Towing a car") or move to it, covering a short distance at a time, to prevent the engine from overheating. The first option is preferable.

Brake system failure

This is one of the most terrible malfunctions, however, if you remain calm, even in this case you will be able to avoid serious consequences. To stop the car, use engine braking, while trying in every way to attract the attention of other drivers (use the horn, flash the high beam headlights and other available means). Try to "pump" the brakes by pressing and releasing the pedal. You can also try to stop the car with the parking brake, but hold the locking button so that you can quickly lower the lever without locking the wheels.

Steering failure

Another terrible malfunction. In this situation, the main thing is not to brake abruptly. When braking sharply, the car may swerve sharply to the side. Brake as smoothly as possible and try to regain control of the car by turning the steering wheel. It is likely that the steering wheel will still act on the steered wheels, but only when turning at large angles.

Road traffic accident

Regardless of who is at fault for the accident, stop immediately, turn on the hazard warning lights, and put up an emergency stop sign in accordance with the requirements of the Road Traffic Regulations (15 m from the vehicle in a populated area or 30 m outside a populated area) and call the traffic police. To call, you will need to indicate the name of the road, the kilometer where the accident occurred. If there is a stationary post in sight, contact it.

Warning! On busy roads (highway, motorway) you should wait for the inspectors to arrive not in your car, but on the side of the road or next to the road, since other road users may run over already parked cars.

The car is equipped with the ERA GLONASS telecommunications system. In case of an emergency, the system allows you to contact the duty operator of the system.

The system controls are located in the interior light housing.

Control bodies of the ERA GLONASS system: 1 - button to call the operator of the "ERA GLONASS" system; 2 - microphone; 3 - speaker; 4 - indicator (control lamp) "ERA GLONASS" system status

The system is equipped with an independent power source - a battery installed in the control unit. This allows the system to operate autonomously for some time in the event of a vehicle battery failure.

The color of the indicator can be used to judge the status of the ERA GLONASS system:
  • Y — indicates that it is impossible to establish contact with the system operator. If it blinks, then there is a malfunction in the system;
  • Y — the location of the vehicle cannot be determined. If it starts to blink, the built-in battery is faulty.
  • Y — all possible operating modes of the system are available. The indicator will flash immediately after switching on and in the system self-diagnosis mode.

To contact the operator, press the SOS button briefly. When calling the operator, the symbols on the button will glow red. To cancel the call, press the SOS button again.

In addition, the system can operate in automatic mode; in this case, in the event of a traffic accident, when the airbags have deployed, the system can send information to the operator, such as the time and coordinates of the accident site, the VIN of the vehicle, and the vehicle's driving mode before the accident.
