Comment. If the wiper does not work or does not work in all modes, the wiper motor-reducer is faulty, the right steering column switch is faulty, or the wiper electrical circuit is faulty (see below «Troubleshooting»).
2. If the wiper blades grind and vibrate when moving on the glass, uncleaned areas remain in the cleaning zone, replace the brushes with new ones.
Comment. An uncleaned streak on the glass could be caused by a plant leaf or branch stuck in the windshield wiper blade. In winter, the brushes do not clean the glass well due to the formation of frost. To fix the problem, just remove the brushes and wash them in warm water. Before installing the brushes should be dried in a warm room. In regions with snowy winters, it is advisable to use «winter brushes», in which the levers are protected by rubber covers.
3. Raise the wiper arms one by one. If this requires significant effort, the levers do not lower themselves under the action of the spring or loosely press the brushes against the glass, we replace the faulty levers (see below, «Windscreen wiper - replacement»).
4. Without making significant efforts, we are trying to move the wiper arms in the direction of their movement. If a large play is found, replace the worn parts of the wiper (see below, «Windscreen wiper - replacement»). If the lever rotates on the shaft, tighten the lever fastening nut.
Troubleshooting
The most typical windshield wiper malfunctions:
- wiper blades do not clean glass well;
- the wiper does not work in one or more modes;
- windshield wiper not working.
Wiper blades do not clean glass
If the wiper blades smear dirt on the glass, do not remove moisture, or leave uncleaned areas, the wiper blades are worn out and need to be replaced.
Windshield wiper does not work in one or more modes
Checking the right steering column switch (see «Paddle switches - replacement»). Replace the defective switch.
Windshield wiper not working
1. If the wiper malfunctions, check the fuse F46 / F48 (see «Fuse and relay mounting block»).
2. Check the wiring of the wiper circuit (see «Checking and repairing electrical circuits»).
3. Checking the right steering column switch (see «Paddle switches - removal and installation»). Replace the defective switch.
4. Check the wiring from the fuse box to the switch (see «Checking and repairing electrical circuits»).
5. If the check did not reveal any malfunctions, the wiper and washer control unit may be faulty or the wiper drive gear motor is faulty (see below, «Windscreen wiper - replacement»).
