Note: If the windshield wiper does not work or does not work in all modes, the windshield wiper motor-reducer is faulty, the right steering column switch is faulty, or the windshield wiper electrical circuit is faulty (see below "Troubleshooting").
2. If the windshield wiper blades grind and vibrate when moving across the glass, and there are uncleaned areas in the cleaning zone, replace the blades with new ones.
Note: An unclear streak on the glass may be caused by a leaf or branch stuck in the wiper blade. In winter, the wipers do not clean the glass well due to the ice that has formed. To fix the problem, simply remove the brushes and wash them in warm water. Before installation, the brushes should be dried in a warm room. In regions with snowy winters, it is advisable to use "winter brushes" whose levers are protected by rubber covers.
3. Raise the windshield wiper arms one by one. If this requires significant effort, the levers do not lower themselves under the action of the spring or do not press the brushes tightly against the glass, replace the faulty levers (see below, "Windscreen wiper - replacement").
4. Without applying significant force, try to move the windshield wiper arms in the direction of their movement. If a large amount of play is detected, replace the worn wiper parts (see below, "Windscreen wiper - replacement"). If the lever rotates on the shaft, tighten the lever mounting nut.
Troubleshooting
The most typical windshield wiper malfunctions:
- windshield wipers do not clean the glass well;
- the windshield wiper does not work in one or more modes;
- the windshield wiper does not work.
Windscreen wipers do not clean the glass
If your wiper blades are smearing dirt across the glass, not removing moisture, or leaving uncleaned areas, the blades are worn out and need to be replaced.
The windshield wiper does not work in one or more modes
We check the right steering column switch (see "Steering column switches - replacement"). We replace the faulty switch.
The windshield wiper does not work
1. If the windshield wiper is faulty, check fuse F46/F48 (see "Fuse and relay mounting block").
2. Check the wiring of the windshield wiper circuit (see "Checking and repairing electrical circuits").
3. Check the right steering column switch (see "Steering column switches - removal and installation"). We replace the faulty switch.
4. Check the wiring from the fuse box to the switch (see "Checking and repairing electrical circuits").
5. If the check does not reveal any faults, the windshield wiper and washer control unit may be faulty or the windshield wiper drive motor-reducer may be faulty (see below, "Windscreen wiper - replacement").
