The windshield wipers are switched on when the ignition switch key is turned to position I.

The windshield wipers are switched on when the ignition switch key is turned to position I.

I - neutral position. Windscreen wipers and washers are turned off.

II - intermittent windshield wiper mode is enabled. Unfixed position.

III - intermittent windshield wiper operation is enabled. Fixed position.

IV - low speed windshield wiper is on. Fixed position.

V - high windshield wiper speed is on. Fixed position.

VI - towards you, windshield washer is on. Unfixed position.

VII* - away from you, rear window wiper on (in a variant design). Fixed position.

VIII* - away from you, rear window wiper and washer on (in a variant design). Unfixed position.

In intermittent mode, the wiper moves its brushes once every few seconds at a constant interval, regardless of the presence of drops on the windshield.

In the variant version, the cars are equipped with an automatic windshield wiper control system (cleaning system), which allows you to turn the wiper on and off automatically depending on the presence of raindrops on the car's windshield.

The cleaning system only operates when the ignition is on.

To turn on the cleaning system, you need to switch the sensitivity of the rain sensor 1 (see figure 35), located behind the rear-view mirror in the sensor cover, move from position 0 to any other position from 1 to 4* **, and move the windshield wiper switch lever to position III (intermittent operation). In this case, the wiper blades make one stroke, after which they will turn on or off depending on the number of raindrops falling on the windshield.

If the cleaning system has already been turned on, then when the ignition is turned on, the brushes also make one stroke and the cleaning system starts working.

If a malfunction is detected, the cleaning system automatically switches to the "manual" windshield wiper control mode.

To turn off the automatic cleaning system and switch to the "manual" windshield wiper control mode, you need to move the rain sensor sensitivity switch to position 0 (extreme left position). In this mode, manual control is exercised to set the windshield wiper switch lever to the appropriate position.

When the ignition is turned off, the windshield wiper stops working and the wipers may not stop in the park position. To move the wipers to the park position, turn on the ignition and move the windshield wiper switch lever to position I.

If the windscreen wiper lever is left in a position other than I and the ignition is switched off for more than 1 minute, the windscreen wiper will not be controlled after the ignition is switched on until the lever position is changed or until the windscreen washer is switched on.

To remove streaks, road salt or road surface elements, periodically clean the brushes and glass with fluid from the washer reservoir. The presence of grease, wax, insects, etc. on the windshield can lead to uneven operation of the windshield wipers and the appearance of dirty streaks on the glass. If streaks are not removed after applying fluid from the washer reservoir, clean the outside of the glass and the blades with a soft cloth using special cleaning agents. After cleaning, rinse the glass and brushes with water.

To avoid failure of the windshield wipers, before turning them on in the winter after a long period of parking in heavy precipitation, it is necessary to clear the windows of snow.

* For hatchback vehicles, not used on sedan vehicles.
** The rain sensor sensitivity can be adjusted in 4 stages. The highest sensitivity is achieved when the switch is set clockwise to the far right position 4.

Attention!
  • 1. To avoid damage, do not operate the windshield wiper with the hood open.
  • 2. Do not turn on the windshield wiper if the windshield is dry. This may result in scratches on the glass or damage to the wipers. Always use windshield washer fluid before turning on the windshield wipers when the glass is dry.
  • 3. If the wipers are frozen to the glass, before turning on the wiper, first turn on the windshield heating (see the section "Heating and ventilation of the passenger compartment"). Trying to turn on the wipers with the wipers frozen to the glass can lead to damage to the rubber band of the wipers and to premature wear of the wiper drive.
  • 4. Do not clean the brushes with gasoline or solvent, this will damage the brushes.
