Warning! Brake drums are replaced immediately in both brake mechanisms of the rear wheels.
Recommendation. We strongly recommend that when replacing brake drums, also replace the brake pads (see «Rear brake pads - replacement»).
Execution sequence
1. We prepare the car for work (see «Preparing the car for maintenance and repair»).
2. Remove the rear wheel (see «Wheel replacement»).
3. Release the parking brake.
4. Press out with a chisel or a slotted screwdriver and a hammer...
... and remove the protective cap of the hub.
5. Using a 36 mm socket wrench, unscrew the hub nut.
6. Remove the brake drum.
Warning! Do not depress the brake pedal with the brake drum removed.
7. Check the condition of the rear brake parts (see «Brake system - check of technical condition»), damaged or worn parts are replaced.
8. We wash the parts of the brake mechanism with a brake cleaner.
9. We install the parts in the reverse order. Tighten the hub nut to the prescribed torque (see table. 3.2).
Recommendation. If the shoes interfere with the installation of the drum, turn the threaded part of the automatic adjuster bar so that the bar has a minimum length (see below, «Rear brake pads - replacement»).
10. Similarly, we replace the second brake drum. Press the brake pedal several times to self-adjust the brake pads and check the parking brake adjustment (see «Parking brake - adjustment»).
