Ignition switch (lock) — checking, removal and installation (Vesta 2180)

In the power supply circuit of most of the electrical equipment of the car, except for the emergency, sound and light alarms, interior lighting, parking lights, brake lights, security alarms and electric door locks, voltage is supplied through the ignition switch. To improve the car's anti-theft properties, the switch is combined with the lock, which is why this device is often called the ignition switch.

The lock body is attached to the steering column with four special bolts with breakaway heads. At a certain tightening torque, the bolt heads break off, and after this it becomes impossible to unscrew the bolts with wrenches.

The ignition switch is additionally equipped with a steering shaft locking mechanism. After the key is removed from the lock, the spring-loaded latch is released. When you try to turn the steering wheel, the latch prevents the steering shaft from turning.

Sequence of execution

1. Prepare the car for work (see "Preparing the car for maintenance and repair").

2. Disconnect the wire terminal from the negative terminal of the battery (see "Battery - Removal and Installation").

3. Remove the decorative steering column trims (see "Steering column trim - removal and installation").

4. Using a thin slotted screwdriver, press the two fasteners and remove the immobilizer from the ignition switch (lock).



5. Press the lock and disconnect the wiring harness connector from the immobilizer.





6. Pull out the retainer



7. Using a multimeter in ohmmeter mode, check the closure of the switch contacts in different positions of the ignition key. The contacts must close in accordance with table 14.6.1. Otherwise, replace the switch.

8. Resting the blade of the chisel against the edge of the head of one of the bolts, lightly tap the chisel with a hammer to loosen the tightening of the fastening bolt.

Note: The chisel should not cut through the bolt head, but should turn the bolt counterclockwise to loosen it.

9. Using narrow-nosed pliers, unscrew the bolt.

10. Remove the ignition switch (lock).

11. Install the ignition switch (lock) in the reverse order. Before installing the ignition switch, insert the key into it and turn it to the C (ON) position ("ON") so that the steering shaft locking mechanism latch is pushed into the lock body. We tighten the bolt until its head comes off.

12. We check the operation of electrical equipment.
