The lock body is attached to the steering column with four special bolts with detachable heads. At a certain tightening torque of the bolts, the heads come off, and after that it becomes impossible to unscrew the bolts with wrenches.
The ignition lock is additionally equipped with a steering shaft lock mechanism. After removing the key from the lock, the spring-loaded latch is released. When you try to turn the steering wheel latch fixes the steering shaft from turning.
Execution sequence
1. We prepare the car for work (see «Preparing the car for maintenance and repair»).
2. Disconnect the wire terminal from the negative terminal of the battery (see «Battery - removal and installation»).
3. Remove the decorative lining of the steering column (see «Facing of a steering column - removal and installation»).
4. With a thin slotted screwdriver, we squeeze out two latches and remove the immobilizer from the switch (castle) ignition.
5. Press the latch and disconnect the wiring harness block from the immobilizer.
6. Pull out the latch
7. With a multimeter in ohmmeter mode, we check the closure of the switch contacts at various positions of the ignition key. Contacts must be closed in accordance with table 14.6.1. Otherwise, replace the switch.
Table 14.6.1. Short circuit of switch contacts at various positions of the ignition key
Key position | closed contacts |
A (STOP) | — |
IN (ACC) | 1-6 |
WITH (ON) | 1-4 |
D (START) | 1-3 |
8. Having rested the chisel blade on the edge of the head of one of the bolts, with light blows of the hammer on the chisel, loosen the fastening bolt.
Comment. The chisel should not cut through the head of the bolt, it should turn the bolt counterclockwise to loosen it.
9. Using pliers with narrow jaws, we unscrew the bolt.
10. Remove the switch (lock) ignition.
11. Install the switch (lock) ignition in reverse order. Before installing the ignition lock, insert the key into it and turn it to position C (ON) («included»), so that the latch of the steering lock mechanism is pushed into the lock body. Tighten the bolt until the head breaks off.
12. We check the operation of electrical equipment.
