1. Disconnect the wire from the negative terminal of the battery.
2. Remove the steering column cover (see "Removing and installing steering column trim covers").
3. Press the latch...
4. ...and disconnect the connector with the ignition switch wires from the instrument panel wiring harness.
5. Disconnect the ignition switch wire connector from the immobilizer control system wire harness.
6. Using a chisel and hammer, or drill out the four bolts with breakaway heads and remove the ignition switch from the steering column (for clarity, shown on a removed steering shaft).
Note: This is what the ignition switch looks like after it is removed from the car.
7. Bend back the ignition switch wiring harness connector retainer...
8. ...and remove the terminals with wires from the block.
9. Squeeze the latches...
10. ...and remove the plastic cover from the lock body.
11. Bend back the two plastic latches...
12. ...and remove the contact group from the lock cover.
13. Inspect the contacts. Clean oxidized or burnt contacts with fine-grained sandpaper. If the contacts are severely damaged, replace the contact group or the lock assembly.
14. Assemble the ignition switch in the reverse order of removal, paying attention to the location of the terminals with wires in the wiring harness block.
15. Install the ignition switch in the reverse order of removal, after first pressing in the locking rod of the anti-theft device. To do this, insert the key into the lock and turn it from position "0" to any other position.
Note: When replacing the ignition switch, it is necessary to replace the electronic code elements (transponders) in the ignition key heads of the new lock with the corresponding code elements of the keys from the ignition lock removed from the car.
Note: The training procedure does not need to be carried out after such a replacement.
