The generator is driven by a poly-V belt from the crankshaft pulley. The generator is fixed to the engine on a bracket, and the belt does not have a tensioner. The belt tension is determined by its length, and the distance between the crankshaft and generator pulleys does not change. As a result, there is no need to adjust the belt tension during vehicle operation. It is installed using a special device. This design has been used by many car manufacturers for a long time. In this case, belts in spare parts are supplied with a set of devices for their installation.
Some vehicles may be equipped with a tensioner with a roller that allows you to adjust the tension of the alternator drive belt. This drive design was used in the car Lada Kalina.
The stator and generator covers are tightened with four bolts. The stator contains a three-phase winding connected in a "star". The winding terminals are secured in plastic holders (with spring-loaded contacts) rectifier block.
The rotor contains an excitation winding, the terminals of which are soldered to two contact rings. The generator rotor shaft is mounted on two ball bearings. The front bearing is rolled into the generator cover, and the rear bearing is pressed onto the rotor shaft and is pressed against the generator rear cover.
On the outside of the rear cover of the generator (under the plastic casing) a rectifier unit and a voltage regulator with a brush assembly are installed.
The rectifier block is assembled on six diodes connected by two aluminum horseshoe-shaped plates.
The voltage regulator is contactless, electronic, assembled into a single unit with a brush assembly.
