Exhaust gases are discharged from the engine through the exhaust manifold 7 (figure 5.24), combined with a neutralizer (cat collector), additional muffler 5 and main muffler 1.
On the catalytic converter 7 two oxygen sensors are installed: diagnostic and main (control).
A sealing metal-reinforced gasket 6 is installed between the cylinder head and the flange of the exhaust manifold. The inlet pipe of the additional muffler 5 is connected via a gasket 8 to the exhaust manifold 7, and the outlet pipe is connected to the flange of the main muffler 1 using a movable hinge. A toroidal metal-graphite ring 3 is installed between the flanges of the muffler pipes that form the hinge, and internal spherical surfaces are made in the flanges.
To reduce the transmission of vibrations from the power unit to the exhaust system and body, a vibration-compensating corrugated bellows in a metal braid is mounted in the intake pipe of the additional muffler.
The exhaust manifold 7 is secured with nuts to the cylinder head studs and is additionally fixed to the engine with a bracket.
The system elements are suspended from the body on four rubber cushions 2.
To protect the engine and the base of the body from heating by the system elements, steel heat shields are installed in front of the exhaust manifold and above the additional muffler. In addition to these, an additional heat-insulating shield is installed in the engine compartment to protect the steering mechanism from overheating (in Figure 5.24, heat shields are not shown).

The arrangement of the system elements on the vehicle is shown in the figure 5.25 and 5.26.

The exhaust system does not require any special maintenance. It is enough to periodically check the reliability of the tightening of the threaded connections and the integrity of the suspension cushions. In case of damage to system elements, through corrosion or burnout, they are replaced as a whole, since the mufflers together with the pipes are non-separable units.
Note: Check the exhaust system periodically. If the noise level from the exhaust system is increased, check its tightness. To do this, start the engine and inspect the entire system. By running your hand over the possible leak areas without touching the components, you will immediately feel the gas leak. If necessary, replace rusted and burnt-out components.
Caution! Before repairing the exhaust system, allow it to cool down, as it heats up to a high temperature during engine operation.

Warning! Exhaust gases are toxic, poisoning occurs unnoticed, so before starting the engine in the garage, be sure to open the gate!
To remove and install the system units, you will need: keys "10", "13", "17", pliers with narrow jaws, a screwdriver with a flat blade.
