Evaporative Canister Purge Valve — Checking and Replacing (Granta 2190)

The need to perform work can be determined by the fault code read through the diagnostic connector ("Checking the technical condition of the engine management system").

To complete the work you will need a multimeter and pieces of wire.

Removal and inspection

1. Prepare the car for work ("Preparing the car for maintenance and repair").

2. Having released the retainer, we disconnect the wiring harness block from the purge valve of the adsorber (the photo shows the air filter cover removed for clarity).



3. Using a screwdriver, release the retainer, move the valve up, and remove it from the bracket (the photo shows the air filter cover removed for clarity).



4. Squeezing the clamp, remove the tube tip from the valve branch pipe.





5. Using a Phillips screwdriver, loosen the clamp securing the hose to the purge valve tube of the adsorber.



6. Using a screwdriver, remove the valve from the adsorber.

Warning: To avoid short circuits, one of the probes should be insulated with PVC tubing when performing the following operation.

7. Apply 12 V voltage from the battery to the valve terminals ("+" to terminal 2, "-" to terminal 1).

Note: When voltage is applied to the terminals, the valve should open with a characteristic click. The faulty valve must be replaced.

Installation

We install the valve in the reverse order of removal.
