The left foot is not used in driving, except for exceptional cases of starting off on a steep ascent and descent, which are discussed below.
Engine start
Press the release button 1 with your right thumb (see fig 37b) and move the gear lever to position P or N. Turn on the ignition and start the engine.
Depress the brake pedal and, pressing the release button, move the gear lever from position P to position R or D (depending on the desired direction to start moving). In this case, the foot must be on the brake pedal, the accelerator pedal must be released.
Warning! If it is necessary to carry out work on the vehicle with the engine running, apply the parking brake and move the gear lever to position P.
Starting and driving in automatic mode
Press the brake pedal and, pressing the release button, move the gear lever to position D, feel a slight jolt, release the brake pedal and, while slowly depressing the accelerator pedal, start moving. In most cases, under normal driving conditions, you will no longer need to use the gear lever: gear shifting will occur automatically at the right time and at the optimum engine speed, as the automation takes into account the vehicle load, road profile and your chosen driving style.
In order to overtake, you need to fully depress the accelerator pedal. In this case, the transmission will automatically shift to a lower gear depending on the current vehicle speed. The car will start accelerating using the full power of the engine.
Starting and reversing
Press the brake pedal and, pressing the lock button, move the gear lever to position R, while feeling a slight push, release the brake pedal, slowly depressing the accelerator pedal, start moving.
Starting and driving on slippery roads
On slippery roads and roads, the surface of which does not provide reliable adhesion of the wheels to the road, to avoid wheel spin and loss of traction, starting off should be started with a careful, slow depressing of the accelerator pedal.
Warning! Sudden depressing of the accelerator pedal can lead to loss of traction and even to the vehicle's demolition.
Attention! Prolonged wheel spin during starting and acceleration can lead to serious damage to the transmission and subsequent costly repairs.
Stopping the car
After a complete stop of the car, keeping your foot on the brake pedal, move the gear lever to position P, while the gearbox will be in neutral gear, and the drive wheels will be mechanically blocked by the transmission.
Attention! Never attempt to move the gear lever to the P position while the vehicle is moving. This will lead to serious mechanical damage and loss of vehicle controllability.
Vehicle driving in economy mode
Button «Overdrive» O/D (ON-OFF) located on the decorative panel of the lever.
ON - the position of switching on the economical driving mode (overdrive). Activated by the O/D button when the shift lever is in D position, if necessary, drive economically in suburban conditions. The overdrive will not engage if the engine has not warmed up to operating temperature.
OFF - the position of switching off the economical driving mode. The overdrive off indicator is located in the instrument cluster. This position is used when driving on long slopes and gentle slopes, when it is necessary to brake the engine, and also when it is necessary to move in a frisky, dynamic mode.
For example, when driving at low speeds or while climbing a gentle hill, the transmission may cycle up and down. You can feel these shifts in small jolts. In this case, press the overdrive off O/D button (position - OFF).
When the driving conditions change, press the O/D button to turn the upshift ON. The overdrive off indicator in the instrument cluster will go out.
Attention! It is not recommended to drive at high speed on suburban roads for a long time with the overdrive off (position - OFF), because it increases fuel consumption.
Short stops
When stopping for a short time, for example, before a traffic light, it is not necessary to move to position N and, moreover, P. It is enough to hold the car with the brake pedal. The engine will then run at idle.
Parking
The car must be completely stopped. Engage the parking brake and then place the gear lever in the park position P. Thanks to this order of operations, especially on slopes, the locking mechanism will not be too loaded and it will subsequently be possible to easily remove the gear lever from this position.
The start of the climb
The vehicle must have the parking brake applied and the gearshift lever in P.
Press the brake pedal, start the engine. Move the shift lever to position D, after a while the transmission will engage, and the car will be held on a slope, releasing the parking brake, press the accelerator pedal, start driving. The car should start moving smoothly, without rolling.
If necessary, a short stop on the rise (control actuator in position D), control the holding of the vehicle by the engine torque or apply the parking brake.
Reversing a car on a downhill slope
The vehicle must have the parking brake applied and the gearshift lever in P.
Press the brake pedal, start the engine. Move the gear lever to R, after a while the transmission will engage and the vehicle will be held on the slope, releasing the parking brake, press the accelerator pedal, start driving. The car should start moving smoothly, without rolling.
Warning! On a steep incline while moving forward (shift lever in D) and reverse descent (shift lever in R) the efficiency of the engine torque transmitted to the wheels will not be enough, therefore, it will be possible to keep the car only with the help of the main or parking brake. Conversely, on a steep slope when reversing (shift lever in R) and descent moving forward (shift lever in D) the moment transmitted to the wheels will be excessive and the use of the main or parking brake is mandatory.
Emergency mode automatic transmission
The automatic transmission may go into emergency operation mode (while engaging 3rd gear), if the vehicle is driven in very difficult conditions. For example, when intense slipping alternates with emergency braking. This can occur even with a fully functional automatic transmission control system. In this case, turn off the ignition and wait 3 seconds. Then turn on the ignition again: the car should return to normal operation.
If the automatic transmission continues to be in emergency mode, contact a manufacturer-approved SSSS.
Removing the gearshift lever lock
With a discharged battery, the gear lever cannot be moved from position P, even if you press the button on the lever while pressing the brake pedal.
To move the gear lever, you need to press the white unlock button located under the decorative cover of the lever, in front to the right of the lever with your left hand finger.
You should now be able to move the gear lever from P to N.
For safety reasons, apply the parking brake and keep the brake pedal depressed during this operation.
If you are having trouble moving the automatic transmission shift lever out of P (parking), having completed all the above operations, contact the manufacturer's certified SSSS.
Recommended methods for towing a vehicle equipped with an automatic transmission
The manufacturer recommends towing a vehicle equipped with an automatic transmission without resting on the drive wheels or by fully loading the vehicle onto a tow truck with a platform.
Attention! It is forbidden to tow a vehicle equipped with an automatic transmission with the front wheels or all four wheels on the road surface, as this may cause serious damage to the transmission and subsequent costly repairs. As an exception, it is possible to tow the car with all wheels resting on the road surface with a working transmission with the control drive in position N at a speed of no more than 20 km/h for a distance of no more than 20 km. If it is necessary to tow the vehicle with the rear wheels raised, the front wheels must be supported by a special trolley.
