Checking should begin immediately after the next engine oil change.

Sequence of execution

1. Warm up the engine to operating temperature (before turning on the electric fan).

2. After the electric fan has completed its working cycle and stopped, turn off the engine.

3. Wait for 15 minutes until the oil drains into the oil pan.

4. Check the engine oil level using the indicator (see "Engine oil level - check").

5. Fill the engine oil to the maximum level (the corresponding label on the level indicator is indicated by an arrow, see. "Engine Oil and Oil Filter - Replacement").

6. Recording the amount of fuel poured into the tank and regularly monitoring the oil level, we operate the car until the car has traveled 2,000 km or until the oil level drops to the minimum permissible value.

Note: If before the next oil change, its level in the engine has not dropped to the minimum, then the consumption is normal.

7. After stopping the engine, warmed up to operating temperature (see above), wait 15 minutes.

Note: To perform the following operation, you must add oil from a measuring container to know the exact amount of oil poured in.

8. Add oil to the engine to the maximum permissible level. The amount of oil poured will correspond to the oil consumption.

9. Calculate the permissible oil consumption using the formula:

A ⩽ Bx0.3%, where

A — permissible oil consumption, l;
B — amount of fuel consumed, l.

10. Compare the obtained values.

Note: If oil consumption exceeds 0.3% of the amount of fuel consumed, then the engine is most likely worn out and requires repair.
